Failed NCLEX at 133 questions.. First attempt

Published

I took my NCLEX RN yesterday. Computer shut off at around 133 questions. I had over 20 SATA, I had math, drag and organize and I had 3 EKG strips!!! I felt was doing ok and found out this morning I failed. To prepare I did NCSBN 3 week course, mainly focused on the questions not do much the content of the lessons. I had the Kaplan book, I did over 400 questions there. Saunders book. I did the comprehensive exam in the back. And I used the mastery app. I would do 200-400 questions a day.

I was calm going into the NCLEX and I felt good. And when the computer shut off I didn't know how to feel. My last question was SATA.

Now i feel horrible and don't know how to prepare. I saw UWORLD but have not met anyone who's done it. Kaplan and Hurst are out of my price range. I also thought of doing the 5 week NCSBN and going lesson by lesson.

Help please! I don't want to fail again. I can retest in 45 days and I want to pass!!!

U world is good but don't forget to study your contents. Build a solid content base then try answering questions also learn strategies of how to answer nclex style questions.some of them you have to think safety and in other scenarios think what could kill them. Other things to keep in mind when answering those priority questions.

acute vs chronic

stable vs unstable

expected vs etc...

good luck on your retest!

It's just the shock stage right now

in nursing school I got by

but the NCLEX had questions and topics I felt I'd never seen before. And everyone said if you get a ton of SATA your good and that wasn't the case

i know I should take the day off but I want to be proactive and I want to "fix" this!

Don't buy into the if you get a ton of select all your doing well and if you don't you're doing bad. I only got maybe 10 select all. My hardest questions were multiple choice.

I felt like that too there were lots of things that I was like how on earth would I know that? But some random things I knew because of uworld. Uworld questions to me were so hard that it helped because you had a broad base of important knowledge and random factoids lol the rationales are just awesome.

highly highly recommend UWORLD. just did the q banks up until my exam and felt that it helped alot. especially the SATA exposure and wonderful rationales. good luck!

Thanks

I plan on buying Uworld

i am taking a week off after this experience just to regroup and give my brain a break.

I am going to setup a solid study plan and focus on content and my question answering strategy

praying it all works!

I asked a few friends of mine who failed and all of them said they had math calculations. I wonder if NCLEX considers drug calculations on the failing level?

In any case, try UWorld. It really is fantastic. :)

I do think math is failing level

when those popped up i blanked and after I was so mad because I know med math

but I didn't practice simple med math like

ml/HR or per 90 min

it's still a shock but I have to gather all my knowledge and apply it!

I start Uworld Monday and I got LaCharity PDA also I'm using Saunders to review content

plus the Kaplan content book.

I have approx. 45 days to retest and I need to use every day!

Be careful with using too many resources as well. It depends on the person but I know for me I had tons of resources and that always stressed me out more, id say start with the first 2 and see how you do before moving on to the other sources

I did UWORLD only and passed in 45 min 75 questions! It rocks!

UWORLD is great. Just do blocks of 20-30 questions. The 75 ones are tough because you can get so many wrong in a row and feel like a failure. Also DO NOT worry about your percentile. I think I ended up in the 48% and was getting down about it, but its nothing to fear! I had about 12 out of my 95 that were SATA, 2 put these in order, 1 math, and the rest multiple choice. Felt like I failed and boom passed! Don't become overloaded with studying. Have a quiet place. (I used my university's library and got internet access from a friend who went there) Be positive, eat healthy, and exercise! Tell yourself this is your day during test day over and over again! Good luck!

Too many resources is right! I take my boards next month and I am using Saunders and the NCLEX mastery app for PN. We have a ATI review course tomorrow to supplement our studying. Having 3 or 4 resources is too much. I've seen posts where people use UWORLD exclusively. UWORLD is amazing because it gives you thorough rationales.

Wish it was true... :/ I didn't have any math questions, literally not one... and I failed.
