Hi Everyone :)
Just wanted to start a thread for everyone that's applied to the Navarro College ADN-RN program starting Fall 2012.
Figured we needed a place to post, ask each other questions etc. while waiting on our acceptance letters..... I was told they won't be sent out until the end of May. Has anyone else heard otherwise?
@makey- I'm not sure. Each instructor is different, so it'll be impossible to fully know until we meet them. But I don't see why not...I mean at our very orientation they had that sales pitch lady using all of her strategies so we'd buy the stuff. However Mrs _____________ mentioned that they don't want us on the internet/facebook and such during a lecture, so maybe they monitor us? I noticed at the back of the room that they had a window...maybe they spy on us during lecture to catch all the people not listening?
The ebooks might save your spine. But if you've already purchases the books, not buying ebooks would save you moneys. Heck you could probably buy the same stuff from another vendor and save hundreds.
Yes yes, I was to the left. We gotta make it a point to "meet" personally on the first day of class. :) I feel like we all already know each other. Haha. And I'm sure that if we're in the same groups, we'll have to know each other really well. I do think its ok to use your laptop. We were able to take ours to my micro class. I guess its per instructors direction? But as stated before, I don't think the lady would have came and brought us snacks and the whole ebook spill if we couldn't bring our laptops. I already got my books, minus a few. The ebook lady was a really good salesperson and I would've been sold hadn't I already gotten my hard copies. I just don't wanna spend more $. :)
I just thought of this today- annoyed at myself for not thinking yesterday lol. Do y'all think it's possible to download the textbooks to a flash/removable hard drive? Then, you could use the books anywhere, regardless of Internet connection. (I was the one who asked about downloading to multiple devices) I think I may email the company and inquire that would be a good selling point, for me anyways. Ugh. I sound like a total geek :)
Ok ladies, I've a bit of info for you all. :) Since the calendar is in black and white (which btw it should be in color, as one of the legends shows a color coded system), I've been trying to make sense of it. From what I have found for the first week, we will need Fundamentals of Nursing for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We will need the Basic Pharm and Dimensional Analysis books for Thursday...with maybe another book, as I couldn't figure out where "health assessment 30" and "Parenteral 10, 11" are.
^Based on what I can see, it won't be too bad on our vertebrae. For the first week at least, a normal backpack might suffice, but this is an educated guess. A lot of this calendar still makes no sense to me...like why groups 1, 2, and 3 on TUES will be doing ch. 1, 2, and 6 while groups 4, 5, and 6 on WED will be doing ch 38, 27, 39, 26...like when do the other groups do the other chapters? Mrs _______ said it's still being revised, so i'm sure it'll all be fixed by day one...but it never hurts to be prepared. :)
@RED: On the Basic Pharmacology book, there is an "evolve" thing; it also has a CD that came with it. I bet that could be your online version of this book that you might be able to download to your computer. :) Your very own ebook, without paying any more! ^_^ lol
:) I was thinking that, Tim!! You know, I already have a lil wagon (my sons lol) so, I might just use it hahaha I am having 2nd thoughts about selling the 8 textbooks already :/ I think I'll just buy the fundamentals book in E form and keep them all... The fundamentals book is just so BIG and heavy...
re: like why groups 1, 2, and 3 on TUES will be doing ch. 1, 2, and 6 while groups 4, 5, and 6 on WED will be doing ch 38, 27, 39, 26...like when do the other groups do the other chapters?
:) Good question!! But, by the way I look at it- BOTH groups attend BOTH Tuesday and Wednesday- from 850-1150 for Lecture and from 1300-1530 on each of the days (Skills) are then broken into groups. ie: Group 1,2,3 is Tues afternoon and Group 4,5,6 is Wed afternoon.
So, we all do the same chapters... just practice VS on different days :thankya:
i know what you mean! that fundamentals book is nearly heavier than the others combined!!!!! the others are relatively light in weight, so i think you're choice is good.
ahhhh that makes sense! i think i got confused because i was remembering how mrs. __________ explained it, and the schedule just wasn't adding up.
me too!!!!!! i'm not sure if she'll send us some that are in color. if we don't get one soon, i'll email and ask her. maybe she's waiting to send us the color ones after they have all revised and corrected errors and changes?
Yep, that's what she said (you've a better memory than I do by a long shot). I hope blackboard doesn't procrastinate like it usually does for me...last semester it came up like the first day of class. -_- I paid online this time so I'm in the dark about blackboard this time.
Are any of you guys carpooling from Waxahachie to Corsicana?
With blackboard- classes show up when the instructor makes hem available. For my spring classes, some were there 3 days before class, and some the day of class. The mini mester algebra class was up a whole week before- which was great! And these last few classes have been up the day before class. Ok, too much rambling lol. Bottom line with Blackboard is: the class is available on BB when he instructor makes it available

I'm sure the ADN instructors allow laptop/eBooks or they wouldn't have had the sales lady at orientation givin her speech
We weren't allowed laptops or electronic devices of any kind in my microbiology class though...
