Hi Everyone :)

Just wanted to start a thread for everyone that's applied to the Navarro College ADN-RN program starting Fall 2012.

Figured we needed a place to post, ask each other questions etc. while waiting on our acceptance letters..... I was told they won't be sent out until the end of May. Has anyone else heard otherwise?

HI MRSKENNEDY!! Reading your post gave me chills.. like a mini mystery/drama novel- first i was like :( then :) !!! I'm SO HAPPY that you got in :) I can't wait for August 1st to roll around > YAYAYAY

Anyways, I just wanted to say hello and CONGRATS!! :w00t:

OH- if you're checking your email via your phone, make sure to check it on the computer too!! I was checking mine on my "smartphone" (iPhone) and it never came through because of the huge attachments.......

Timmedico - Thanks so much for replying, it's wonderful seeing how encouraging everyone is. Thanks for letting me know just how much I will have to fill out/read in the e-mail. I've already updated all of my shots and just have to do the TB skin test and the drug screening. I usually buy my books online since they are always so much cheaper, can you tell me how many books there are in total for the first semester?

Red1984 - Thank you so much! When I got off the phone and told my husband, I couldn't keep from crying. I know they have to have a way to weed through the tons of applications they get, but I felt like I worked so incredibly hard and it almost slipped through my fingers. I have never been so excited to go to school and I'm sure I'll be laughing at myself later when I'm physically and mentally exhausted from all the work. Thanks for the heads up, I do check my e-mail on my phone but I check the computer as well just in case. Crossing my fingers I'll have mail tomorrow!

Also, I have a question for anyone who might be able to answer it - I see that most have finished all of the basic classes and the only thing left will be nursing classes, which is what I've done as well since I knew I would need to focus all of my attention to just nursing. On WebAdvisor the program evaluation adds in those basic classes so since we've taken those, does this shorten how long it will take us to graduate? That may be a stupid question, I just didn't know how that worked.

There are 13 total books that are listed (however, the NCLEX review is optional). If you'd like to know the book names/isbn # and such I can give you that information as well (although I can't PM it here unless you've posted like 15 times on allnurses).

I can answer your question. Unfortunately, we cannot finish any faster than 2 years. The program is staggered in such a way that we must take certain nursing classes before others (for instance, we have fundamentals of nursing and pharmacology a semester before Common Health Care Needs...we have to know the basics first). It's not a stupid question at all! I asked the same thing and hoped for it, but it's a 2 year program no matter what. But having the other classes out of the way is gonna help a lot! Won't have to worry about anything but Nursing exclusively, and I think that'll make us better nurses. :)

I'm hoping you get that email tomorrow too!!!!! :nurse:

Congratultions Mrs. Kennedy!!! I bet it was a shock to find out the way you did!

I got the e-mail today (and all 13 attachments!) :lol2: This makes it so much more real. I had my TB skin test and my last hepatitis shot done today as well. Now, I just have to get my books, scrubs, CPR class, and probably a million other things as well. I'm opening up all the attachments right now, but I just wanted to let you guys know I'm officially in! Can't wait to meet everyone!

Woop woop!!! :) congrats again mrskennedy!!!

WOO!!!!!!!!!!!! :yeah::yelclap::cheers: Congratulations!!!!!!!!! Thanks for letting us know!!! It's so exciting to have our own little group of Navarro Nursing students. :) If you need any help with anything feel free to ask.

OK guys, upon looking at the attachments, I saw the form for the $160 nursing kit. Does anyone know what comes in this kit and if there is anything besides the scrubs/shoes/books/drug screening etc. that we will need to purchase before class? I know a lot of these questions will be answered at the orientation in August, but I'm so excited and anxious to be prepared!

Another thing, I'm not sure if anyone has already answered this question, but what about the BON book form stuff? It says it's available for free on the website, so do we even need to purchase this? Also, why do we need a poster?

A couple more questions, just to get an idea, what shoes are you guys planning on getting/wearing for nursing school? Does anyone know if any of our books can possibly be found on a Kindle? My husband's co-worker said his wife got all of her books on a tablet and didn't have to carry a huge backpack.

Thanks guys, I feel like we're a little Navarro family!

Good question! Whenever I bought the $160 kit, there was no description for what was in it...soooo I guess it's up for speculation. I'd like to know the same, but I figure the kit is paying for supplies that will be used at the school. What I'm wondering about is the lab coat...either we buy our own and get some kind of Navarro patch/ID on it or it comes in the kit. It's kinda like a mystery I guess. hahaha The nursing school is keeping things interesting for us. :p

No need to purchase any of that stuff (the poster is beyond me...I have no idea). I downloaded it all from the BON site, and you can download the quarterly magazine/issue whenever it comes out. :) So you'll save money in this respect.

Shoes...hmmm....you know I'm not sure at all. I think the crocs look really weird to say the least. I am hoping to find some nice white tennis shoes that don't have the logo all over the shoes. On the scrubs attachment it specifies. Everywhere I go though, all I see is them bloody crocs!!!!!!!! :lol2: The kindle sounds like a great idea! I did come across some of the books on kindle (they might be cheaper that way too). :) It would really pay off to not have to haul around our luggage. lol I'm young but I am "old school"; I'm one of those people who need the books to thumb through, seeing visuals, examples, etc. If you do go through with the Kindle option, get a good outer case for it so that if you happen to drop it you won't lose everything.

I just don't know what to expect...we have so many books that I'm wondering how it's gonna be. I figure the HUGE foundations of nursing will be the main book we'll read all the way through, while we use the others for reference (Josh will know).

Hey everyone I left a comment a few weeks ago about being on the active alernate list. Today I recieved an email offering admissions!!!!! I'm am so excited for the fall semester.

WOOOOOOOOO!!! Congrats Moochie!! :w00t: Welcome to our posse LOL

And for the shoes thing- I'm pretty sure we CAN'T wear crocs.... I know the attachment says something alont the lines of "NO MESH" "NO LOGOS" so, I'm getting a pair of plain white Nike Shox.... no mesh, and the "swoosh" is the same color as the shoe, with no outline, so I'm hoping that's ok...
