Hi Everyone :)

Just wanted to start a thread for everyone that's applied to the Navarro College ADN-RN program starting Fall 2012.

Figured we needed a place to post, ask each other questions etc. while waiting on our acceptance letters..... I was told they won't be sent out until the end of May. Has anyone else heard otherwise?

Congratulations :) I love babies :D

Josh- did your class have clinicals 2x a week? Our schedule says Wed/Thu TBA... Just wondering if it will be one of those days, or both..?? Glad to know you're still checkin in on us ;) I appreciate it a lot.

You will have a clinical day once a week, it is broken up into 2 days because they divide the class in to 2 groups. But you will have whats called an ACE day or (alt clinical experience) that is basically a lab day that is counted as a "clinical day". They just teach you a skill or something, and you practice it on your clinical group. In the fall semester the clinicals will be in a local nursing home, and you will basically be doing physical assessments and using basic skills......oh and also this is the time to get over being nervous. We were all like scared sheep huddled together when we went haha. You will look back at the end of the semester and laugh at yourself lol

"scared sheep huddled together" actually made me chuckle.... SO TRUE!! That's how my CNA clinicals were! But, when I did my PCT clinicals, I was A LOT more comfortable ;) I'm sure I will be like a scared sheep my first few days though!! I am really excited to get started :)

Thanks Josh!!

Congrats on getting in RaeAnn!!!!!!! :) CPR is ok as long as it's good through May 2014. I'm sure the TB will be fine as long as you have it before orientation day (august 1). I'm still pondering if I should go ahead and get the last HEP B shots...although they said I didn't have to (keeps playing over and over in my mind that something will change and I'll need the shots after all).

Josh, I'm not so nervous just yet. :D I'm waiting for my books to get here so I can start reading!

adb14, I HEARD OF THAT PLACE!!!!! Do they have scrubs for men too? I'm having trouble finding the one with 2 pockets at bottom for men (in fact the specific Landau number is listed as "women's"). I checked Dorothy's Facebook page and all I saw was the fancy artistic scrubs. :thankya:

This clinical schedule intrigues me! If it is based on location, I'd venture to say I'll be doing clinicals in a Waxahachie nursing home. What about you guys?

By the way, I have some links that might be helpful.

This one is just talking about good school bags (we're gonna need it to haul around our libraries). :D https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/school-bag-740400.html

and this one is just a basic nursing student training site that I found here on allnurses.com (by the way, I love this site and the people on it!)

Thank you Josh for helping us out! :)

I have all my books and I keep "planning on" getting started by reading them. I feel like I have absolutely no time though... Ugh I guess I'm gonna have to get used to it eh??

This semester (summer 1) I'm taking HDEV and ARTAPP..... I am breezing through HDEV but am honestly struggling with the ART :( it's just not my "thing" I suppose... Ok that's all the whining I'll voice tonight.... :D

Oh..... Tim- look online for scrubs :) there is plenty! I just typed in google search "landau true red #####" the ## being the model # lol I don't have it on me. A lot of different sites come up and the pricing seems reasonable :)

Well priorities rule, whether it's personal stuff or summer classes you're taking now. :) So planning on reading is fine! Art was the same for me. I like looking at art and all, but I don't wanna look THAT HARD. :thankya: I'm not sure who your teacher is, but if he/she is anything like mine, the tests are comprised of a TON of vocabulary and examples/reasons for certain pieces of art and who created it.

I looked online and did find a ton. I was searching to find the style I'd like best. No matter what I like, I've gotta go get "fitted" this weekend (sounds crazy but it's true; tall and skinny means sizing is sometimes difficult). The pricing is quite nice, as well as Landau period. :) I'm glad we're in true red. I've read threads on here in which people hate the color of their scrubs. :p

Has anyone bought the BON stuff or are you just downloading it from internet? Does anyone know if there is anything that we should brush up on before classes start this fall?

TIM, they do have men's. I actually went to the one in Duncanville, bc I didn't know about the one in waxahachie. But the salesperson told me that they had a lot more of the true red at the one in Hachie. Ill be ok with clinicals in Ennis, Corsicana, or Waxahachie. I've been "thinking" about getting started on reading my books too, but I'm in the same boat.... NO TIME! I'm working up until school starts and taking 2 classes. Plus, I've got 3 lil ones. My sister has been an RN for about 8 years and when she saw my books, she was like, "you may wanna get started on those." Lol! Id say go ahead and get the HEP B. You can never be too cautious! :-)

makey, just download the BON stuff. Everything (except the poster) is free on their site. Brushing up on Anatomy & Physiology couldn't hurt (what we studied in A&P will definitely be used in nursing school; all the info builds as we move along in the program). Also, like Josh said, it probably wouldn't hurt to start doing some NCLEX tests to see how different they are. I've taken a few and they are definitely a BIG jump from normal tests. However, it's not "hard", just not something we may be used to. :)

adb, Thanks for letting me know! When I googled the one in Waxahachie, I had to look reallyyyyyy harrdddd to see it. :p It's not too far from Baylor...although I've driven by there countless times over the years and never spotted it.

Was the CPR class really from 9-5?
