National University SD Cohort 59 July19

Published

Hello future nurses,

I have recently applied to cohort 57 for National University in SD and was denied then decided to skip cohort 58 and get more study time in for the next cohort. I am not as nervous as I was in the first time I applied, people seem to be getting higher and higher teas scores which makes the program more difficult to get into, which is good it challenges all of us. When I took the essay i was super scared and didn't practice all the prompts, I didn't score well but scored better then I though I would have.

I am excited to hear from others that will be applying for the cohort 59 for July 2019!

I got in! I'm so excited.

So sorry to those of you that have to keep waiting...hopefully it will work out and you'll get to start soon.

Congrats! I got in as well... Thank god. I'm fairly sure my wife would have killed me if I did not.

My GPA is 3.86 and I scored 89.3 on the TEAS. I don't know what my essay score was yet.

I also got in-- congrats to everyone who did as well. I am 90% sure that I will not be accepting, and giving the spot to someone else. again, congrats!

At RNToBe695, Congratulations on being accepted! I am little confused with your post. Were you accepted at a different school or not accepting cohort 59 due to other personal reasons? Thank you and best of success!

Hi everyone!

Congrats to those that got in!! Unfortunately, I was not accepted to this cohort. I have an above average TEAS score and a competitive GPA, but keep getting low scores on the essay. I consider myself to be a good writer and I've prepared for the writing sessions. I have even scheduled time with the tutoring center prior to the exams. I directly answer the prompt, I keep it under 2 pages, and I follow the 5 paragraph format.

If anyone that has received a 4-5 on the essay could shed some light my way, that would be very helpful. My next application will be my final attempt I would greatly appreciate any guidance.

Thanks!

I am in the same boat. On my first attempt, I did not practice the essay at all and I scored 4/5. During my second attempt, i took 2 months to go over all the prompts and practiced each of them several times and even got help from people to polish my English and fine tune my sales pitch. The result? I got 4/5. The moral of the story is...I don't know. Luck? Whether the graders had their coffee before they scored our essays, or if their moods were less than positive in the moment, or if they were a tad bit cranky...who knows? I would love to know. Of course, everything at NU is so sensitive and classified that they will not answer on these remarks. As some major Ivy league and public schools going through corrupt admissions scrutinies, I am beginning to look at NU in a different light. Alas, the struggle continues. Onward to the third and final attempt. Stay positive.

I just sent in a request for my scores, so when I know that I can better let you know. That being said, I know I had a 90 on the TEAS and my gpa should have been a 4.0

As you can tell by the overall scores nursing is just becoming very competitive in California. The scores go up every year, which just means that there is very little room for error.

Also, if you are consistently getting 4/5 on the essay I would suggest placing your focus on the TEAS for the next go around. There is also the rumor that the essay is being phased out.

Waiting to see what my essay score was because I feel I am not a good writer and I only had enough time just correct a few of my typos and did not real proof reading.

Best of Luck

Thanks for your response Sufindi! Any tips on how you got to the 4? I can’t seem to get past a 3.25 and this is such a low score!
