National Deans List??

My youngest daughter is a member of the National Honor Society. She was inducted last year sometime, and the ceremony was great! :) I will ask her if being a member pays off, and get back to you. :)

I already belong to the international honor society. The National Deans list is different. I'm not sure what the benefit is of having your name published and what the difference is.

Strange, I have never heard of the National Dean's List (uh oh, does that mean they don't want me? LOL). Anyway, was on the Collegiate All-American Scholars list and got this big thing trying to get me to send in a pic, bio, ect. But they did say on the info they sent that being in the book gave me chances to apply for extra scholarships. I would figure if that were the case with the National Dean's list they would have said something about it on the information. Anyway, congrats on getting on the list!

That is what they want, bio, pic etc..I don't see anything about scholarships. Hmmm... thanks for your input! :)

But sent it in, you don't have to buy the book. But it gives you the right to put that on your resume!!!!!!!! Looks good to a prospective employer.

i,too,am a member of the national dean's list. your name will be in the book regardless if you send in your bio, picture or pay the money to purchase the book. you will have a chance to receive scholarships, not automicatilly given one.

as stated above, it can only enhance your resume.

National Honor Society and the National Dean's List is very different. National Dean's list is a gimick pure and simple. It is geared to sell copies and that's it. Your transcript from your school will be the tale of the tape as far as scholarships/acceptance. National Honor Society in high school is something that will take you places, if you are there congratulations and use it wisely. Save your money on the national dean's list though, use it for school instead. Let's face it noone in arizona gives a flying fig who is on the dean's list in Maryland. And why should they? Think long and hard about wasting the money. While you're in college you need your money to go elsewhere.

i think its just associated with phi theta kappa, isnt it? i got a letter today saying that i was eligible for the nation deans list because im a member of ptk. and it says you are eligible to compete for a 1000 dollar scholarship when you send back your info, but it mostly just seems like a way to get you to buy the book. i was in the whos who among american high school students in high school, and it was the same thing...send back your info and you can buy the book, but theres no real benefit other than being proud of yourself. i think i will send back the info, since its free to do that, but not buy the book, cause i dont need to see my name in print that bad.

For young nursing students, you need to think about your resume. When you get out you will need to stress your school accomplishments because you don't have any experience. You don't HAVE to buy any of this stuff, but listing National Dean's List, Who's Who in American Colleges, USAA Scholar, Phi Theta Kappa membership, etc, etc, etc. looks good on your resume. Take is from an old business professional who became a nurse at 42, build your resume. A well written resume with items of honors listed on it important, especially if you want to start out in specialty areas. They want to know you were the "extra mile" girl in school. To an employer, that's the one they will pick over the plain one page resume. Think beyond school! Treat your resume building just as any business degree student, liberal arts student, etc, will. Yes, some hospitals just want a warm conscious body to plug into their holes, but some are looking for the best. Be the best.
