Has anyone Interviewed for NSCC ADN program? please share
caligirl08- I am having a rough time deciding where to go. The accredidation thing with NSCC is really weighing heavy on me. When I had the interview at NSCC the question came up about accredidation and the interviewer said that they would definitely be accredited by the end of the fall semester, but that's not possible. I contacted the NLNAC and they informed me the first class has to successfully graduate in order to apply for candacy, and candacy does not guarantee that the program will get accredited. I'm going to contact the board of nursing and ask them about restrictions on graduating from a non accredited program. I have contacted some Rn to BSN programs to see if it matters if I graduated from a non accredited program and I've only found one that doesn't accept it.
Aquinas on the other hand will end up costing over $30,000 and I don't want to take Ethics and Moral Theology. The Financial Aid department said that I qualify for loans but I don't want to finish nursing school and be in debt over my head. I have to make a decision by June 8 because I have to pay $150 to hold my spot and have initiated a back ground check at Aquinas.
I am so confused and feel like I will make the wrong decision. The only pro NSCC has is the price, no religion coorifices, and classes only 3 days a week, but those few pros can come back and bite me in the butt in 2 years.
harris88: You are absolutely correct, this is a huge decision and I don't want to regret the path I choose. I have been doing some research on Aquinas and I have been seeing some bad reviews. That kind of freaks me out! There is not much posted on NSCC right now because it is still such a new program. I honestly really like NSCC and the price is right, but when and will they be accredited is the question.
I was told that NSCC has classes 2 days per week, were you told 3 days per week?I thought it was MW or TR, were you told different? The reason I ask, I have a part-time job and I'm not sure about my schedule if it is 3 times per week.
I have also read a lot of negative reviews for Aquinas nursing program. I thought that NSCC program was 3 days a week. They split the class up into 2 groups of 25. One group will go on Monday 8-4 and the other will go tues 8-4, clinicals on thur and skill lab Friday. That's what my group was told during the interview. I would really like to know for my schedule so I can make preparations for work
Hello... This is a great site. Congratulations to all who were accepted into a nursing program!I too was accepted to NSCC. Like most of your posts, I am also concerned about accreditation and my federal pell grant covering some of the costs involved. I have also heard several different stories about how class schedules work and what days are involved. I can not hardly wait for June 15th to get all the details and answers to all my questions. This has been one long stressful journey thus far. Thank you all for posting great information on here =)
Thank you Cali! I can't wait to meet everyone too! I heard that Class was on Monday, 1 day of clinicals on Tuesday and lab on Friday. I also heard that it was 2 days of class(mon &wed), 1 day of clinicals (Tuesday) and lab on Friday. I wish I knew how many days and hours were involved, so that I could plan accordingly. June 15th can't get her quick enough for me lol. Whether or not my pell grant will help pay for it is driving me loopy. I also would like to know how soon after the first class graduates will the program be officially accredited, and what are the chances of it happening? I want to hear that it is 100%.So hopefully our class will be accredited before we graduate!:)
I finally received my rejection letter.. sad. I really don't know why I was not considered to be honest. I was reading some of ya'lls comment on the Aquinas nursing program... I had a friend that went there and graduated and was snatched up for a job very fast. My friend mentioned to me, along with several other nursing students there, that several hospitals in the area try to snag up the Aquinas nursing students quickly after they graduate. I have heard a lot of good things about their nursing program, and my friends really liked it too. Everyone has their opinion, so I guess you just have to go with what your heart AND mind are telling you. I am attending Aquinas this summer and applying for their program this fall. Hopefully I will get in. ALSO, if you are worried about taking out student loans for nursing school, then check into the nursing student loans forgivness programs that Tennessee offers. At this point, I just want to get in the program. I understand completley about not wanting to get into debt, but if I have to get student loans then I will. I really hope nothing but the best to all of you, and congratulations again. All of your hardwork is finally paying off! :)
m2004rc- I'm very sorry to hear that! Do not give up! If I wasn't accepted into NSCC , I would have definitely taken out student loans for Aquanis. My dream is to become an RN far out weighs the loan payments to me!I too have heard that their nursing program is top notch!!Good luck to you :) On another note, my friend went down to NSCC today and spoke with an advisor in the financial aid office. Your Pell grant "CAN" be used with their nursing program, even though they are not accredited yet! It will be like any other class, that you have taken, using a Pell grant. Also, starting this summer, we can charge our nursing books to our Pell grant. The cost of books and tuition will come out of the grant and the remaining balance ( if any) will be refunded to you! I know another student had questions about that like myself! I hope this information was helpful. Good luck to everyone.
