Thank you-I only qualified for a partial grant ( because of my parents income) but that was only enough to cover tuition and some of the books. I can't afford all the upfront expenses. I thought that I could, but I know I can't right now. My grandparents were kind enough to take me in while I'm in school, but they live on a fixed income. I would have to work at least part time . I didn't think this through enough and I wish that I have. At this point I've only lost $200. I applied to several schools to increase my chances of being accepted. I was so excited when NSCC accepted me, that I didn't think or plan ahead. I am going to save money this year and stick with the schools in my area. I will be able to live home with my parents for free and go to school. I'm a little bummed out but relieved at the same time! I wish you all the best of luck!

That's great Neekoli- Don't let this thread discourage you. Because this is a new nursing program, things are continually changing and there are a few things that need to be ironed out. From what I have heard the coursework in running smoothly and the program itself is exceptional. They are not accredited yet, but will be after the first class graduates ( from what I just learned)! We have an amazing D.O.N, Vanderbilt graduate, running the program and it is structured to be the best because it is new! We come here to vent to each other and ask questions mostly because we are all nervous and want to be ready and well prepared for our first day! As my previous post states, "everything we have been told has been completely wrong, adjusted, deleted or misrepresented", for the most part that is true, but not everything. My last post was a little harsh, because it does get frustrating when things are not flowing like they're suppose to. Dates, times, book lists, ect have been changed but nothing major. Just enough to be an inconvenience. I am nervous how the next two years will go but I guess we shall see. I'm not familiar with NSCC, but I have confidence in my decision to attend there, and all the positive reviews from other enrolled students influenced my decision. I will have to keep this in mind the next time a bump in the road arises!!Good luck... I'll keep y'all posted :)

Thank you harris88- I noticed that they changed the price of our Assessment bundle from $339.00 to $208.75. Someone must have pointed it out between last night and this afternoon. I inquired about the fundamentals package not being available and was told that it was not in yet. The price of $466.00 will hopefully be reduced as well, to the original estimate of $280.00. If all falls into place correctly we will pay approximately $700-750, including optional material. I honestly don't like the fact that everything we have been told has been completely wrong, adjusted, deleted or misrepresented. It does not give me much hope in how this program will run throughout the next 2 years. Has anyone asked about the accreditation? Tammy is new and does not have all the correct answers. Has anyone here actually attended this school previously?

I just found the link to view and purchase our books. I am more confused now than ever. The fundamentals of nursing package is not hi-lited as if to say it is not available. I also could not make sense of the packages they have, and the ones on our list, since the ISBN #s do not match. The site also states that maternal health and nursing care of children is required. I thought those were required for later semesters. Please please please someone explain this to me!! Thank you

Wait I'm lost! We need 2 books in addition to the ones on our book list? Where did you see that online exactly? I am registered too! Has anyone been fingerprinted yet? I plan on doing mine next week. I can't believe our books will be $1363.00! The revised book list that we received have our books totaling around $650. That is not including the optional one at the bottom of the list. I'm sure that book is not $700.00! Did anyone ask the nursing department where they got their figures from or if the 2 additional books are required? Will the book store honor our quoted rates from the nursing department? This is not good for me because my total pell grant is only $1400! Thank you lotsoflove for the information, unfortunately I wont have the money to purchase them first. I feel as though the bookstore is ripping off the financial aid students who have no other choice but to get them there

To be safe, I am not going to purchase liability or malpractice insurance until after orientation. I can not afford to be buying things I don't need. When I brought my paperwork in on Monday, it wasn't even mentioned. I have not filled out the VA forms yet but plan to later. I have no idea what to put in some places on it. Tammy said we need to have all that done by orientation. I also remember them saying that we would get a letter with instructions on how to fill it out. Everything that we have been told keeps changing

She didn't mention it to me. We were told at our first meeting everything that we were required to purchase. They wanted us to have the liability insurance and health. The check list online does not even mention the health insurance, but thankfully I'm covered. I'm not sure if malpractice and liability are one in the same, but if they are, some students have already purchased it. We were told to do so in meeting #1.

I received the Kaplan e-mail too. I do not see a problem with the closed back, slip on clog. You may want to check on that. I'm not sure what I will be getting, but I know I wont be paying anything near $100

I have Health insurance through my dad but I need liability. I don't know who we are suppose to talk to about it. The school nursing department webpage states that liability insurance is $23 a year, so they must know. If they know the cost they must know who is selling it, but they haven't mentioned anything..

Harris88- Great site but still a little to high for me, I know I can't afford a Littman. Do you know of any good quality stethoscopes for around $25? Also, you may want to double check before you buy clogs. My notes, from our very first meeting, state that all tennis shoes are to be completely white with all white stitching and not a hint of color. Then she stated that we were not allowed to wear Crocs or clogs and that our entire foot will need to be covered.

Kay2010-Lord no lol-I will be moving to Nashville to stay with family while I'm in school. I think I'm going to wait until Monday to get my uniforms. I have to be at the school to hand my paperwork in that day, so it will be easier. I feel rushed too, but we don't have to have everything in. They understand that background checks and drug screens are not in yet. Have any of you ordered insurance yet? Hopefully we will be registered soon!!Thanks for the tip Harris88- I'm going to check medisave.net now:)

Thanks for the info Harris88. I am going to call them now and see if I can order them online, opposed to having to drive over 3 hours there just to place an order. Do you have any recommendations on shoes or a very cheap but good stethoscope? Have you heard anything about the VA paperwork and what we are to do next ?

Readergirl- I'm not exactly sure. I remember her commenting on how good we all looked( at the first meeting) and in her next breath said something along the lines of " this is exactly how I want you all to dress when your not in uniform". I remember thinking to myself " oh my gosh" because the dress suit I had on was borrowed from my mom... She said that we should look "professional" when we come to class and when we are in uniform. I wear sandals, heels or flops every single day and in the winter I'm a huge boot fanatic!! I'm not sure if jeans will be ok or not, but by the sound of it I may have to revamp my too trendy wardrobe. To me it is dressy but on the advice of my family, I may have to tone it down a little. I definitely don't want to stick out too much or be looked down upon because of the way I dress :

I'm only buying two, although one will be plenty for this semester, I would like to have a back up. Kay-2010-yes, we only need them for skills lab and clinical day this semester. On lecture day we are to dress professional.
