Has anyone Interviewed for NSCC ADN program? please share
Hello-The nursing meeting today went well and answered a lot of questions. I was a little intimidated being one of the youngest in our group though. I still have so many more questions, but felt as if we were being rushed a bit.The accreditation topic never had a chance to be discussed and does anyone know where we can get Liability Insurance? Also, i know this was covered, but I couldn't hear her very well: What do we do when we have all immunizations and documents in order. Do we bring the folder to the nursing office or to orientation? Should we wear our uniforms to orientation?
Jellybean01: I was wondering how orientation went. I decided to attend Aquinas, so I just emailed the nursing dept about withdrawing my application at nscc. It was a tough decission for sure. Don't be intimidated by the age groups you are lucky to have started at a young age, I wish I started earlier. Well, good luck in your program!
jellybean01- you bring all your stuff to orientation. We won't have our uniforms by orientation and the first time we have to wear our uniforms will be during skill lab.
Has anyone tried to look up our books on that website? I'm not having any luck finding them on the website. Also, the lady from financial aid said that we can charge our books to financial aid, but how can we do that when we don't get our books from the bookstore?
I was wondering the same question. Also, if we aren't signed up for classes until the middle of August, there will be no award or Pell grant to use until then. I'm a little stressed about this now because I was planning on using my Pell grant or student loan to cover books and it may be too late by the time we are awarded. Hopefully some of this info will be covered next meeting.
I am thrilled to have been accepted into the fall class, and was so excited at the meeting on the 15th. Like others, however, I do have some concernes about timing and finance. If schedules aren't loaded until mid-August, then financial aid award letters go out, we should get them just a day or two before we start orientation. I have a job and have to give at least two weeks notice. How do I give notice and leave a job if I don't even know how much aid I'll getor if I'll be able to afford it at all? That's a big risk.
Also, I already have a degree, and am limited to only student loans. The financial aid office tells me that the loans are capped at $5,250 per semester. I asked for a list of lenders for private student loans, and they looked at me like I was crazy, and said that they will not approve a student loan from a private lender. If we are so strongly discouraged from working, how are we supposed to get by on $5,250 per semester for tuition, books, uniforms, fees, etc, and still have anything left over for food, rent, gas, or mandatory health insurance? Also, I understand the financial disbursements for student loan funds are not available to students until October. How do I pay for $600 worth of books, uniforms, a nursing kit, background and drug tests, a doctor's visit with half a dozen titers and shots, all four months before I have any of my loan money?
I have worked so hard to get here, and was thrilled when Dr. ****** called me, and now I would hate to lose it all over logistics and finances.
Readergirl- I feel the same way. My joy of being accepted into the program was definitely short-lived. I have always known my cost of tuition and how much financial aid I would be receiving at least 1 month before the semester started. I have called the financial aid department to ask them about charging our books to financial aid and was told that I need to talk to the head of financial aid and I have left him 2 messages a week since our meeting on the 15th and he has not returned my calls. It just baffles me how they expect us to pay almost $1,000 dollars out of pocket before we even start the program. I have also never heard of taking a class and having to purchase your text books from a third party. I'm really stressing over this.
IF ANYONE HEARS OR KNOWS ANY INFORMATION REGARDING FINANCIAL AID FOR THE PROGRAM, PLEASE RESPOND!
I emailed the NSCC financial aid office last week, and they informed me that student loans and pell grants (if you qualify) should show up on my nscc either this week or next week. Even though we will not be signed up for classes until mid August, this information will be on our account and we will not be purged from classes.
I spoke with financial aid as well today. I was told the exact same thing. In addition, I was also told that the book store wont be able to let us charge books until we are registered. The reason for this is because they need to see how much of our grant money is left over, after tuition, to apply towards our books. A fellow classmate also just advised me not to purchase books because the list is incorrect( not that I can afford to anyway). Apparently revisions have been made to it and we will receive an updated copy at our July meeting. I live three hours away, at the moment, or I would go into the nursing office myself and ask them directly. Puggman_ my main concern is that they register us sooner than mid August. We need to be in the system before the August 11th purge date and it would be nice not to have to wait until last minute to get our books. My second concern is what if I purchased my books already? We still have not been officially notified that they changed the list. I left a message with the nursing department today, hopefully I will hear back.

I have no idea what to wear to our meeting on Wednesday. Is anyone dressing casual? I was thinking about wearing a black dress suit but did not want to be the only one dressed up:confused:
