Heya everyone,

So I plan on graduating nursing school in May 2010 in NY and am looking to possibly move to philadelphia, I'm hoping by that time the economy has bounced back and more places are hiring. I was wondering if people could tell me about the hospitals in the city or surrounding area and the starting salary and whatever other fun/useful facts you may know. Thanks!:heartbeat

I don't know about Philly..

Allentown (about an hour away)

St. Lukes' Hospital - 16/hr

Lehigh Valley Hospital - 17/hr

Sacred Heart - 15/hr

Those can't possibly be RN salaries

Those would be LPN rates in the Pittsburgh region.

UPMC system starts new grads at $21/hr.

In Philadelphia new RNs make about 28/hr.

And- if you've never lived here- it's a great city to live in. Very affordable, very accessible, lots of activity.

thanks it seems like there is always something to do or see, and is only an hr drive or so to the beach 28 is def a nice starting rate

it also depends on if you have a ADN or BSN. Alot of the city hosptials and even some of the suburban hospitals are starting to post BSN only. These are some of the rates I heard from my classmates

MLHS 28

Mercy 30

Temple 40

I suggest you secure a position before you up-root because the HR websites are also starting to post "NO NEW GRADUATES"

I will have my BSN in nursing and another B.S. in human biology. I plan on applying for jobs in january, so this way I can secure something before I move down there. If I cant secure anything down there I have received 2 job offers in rochester, and will be forced to stay up here for now. My family and friends all live within an hour of D.C. so it would be more convenient. Thanks for the help!
