Name hospital and salary--everywhere

Hi, everyone seemed to be enjoying the name your hospital and salary thread from NY and I noticed others would like to participate and know about other states. So everyone join in. Name your hospital, starting rate, and how much experience you have and your specialty. :Melody:

Specializes in ICU, telemetry, LTAC.

I do think other professions know what they can make and where they can get it. People are going to talk, whether it's voice, internet, conferences or whatnot.

I bought the "inappropriate" line of BS when I worked in a doc's office, long ago, doing the neverending paperwork for insurance billing. Then I found out I was the least paid because I didn't discuss the issue. Oh, how professional of me to save my boss money and eat 30 cent macaroni and cheese for supper most nights. To heck with that. Salary discussions are both appropriate and necessary to assure that people don't get run over by those facilities that are too cheap to pay for good patient care.

So....you are saying that publicly talking about salaries or wages will influence how much you can or will earn?

Yes, that's what I'm saying, because we'll ask for appropriate salaries, or vote with our feet.

Specializes in Tele, Renal, ICU, CIU, ER, Home Health..

Northern California

New Grads start at 32/hr.

10 years experience/administrative = 39.5 /hr. Could make 2.50/hr more on the floor doing charge or team leading.

Specializes in Tele, M/S, Stepdown, ICU.

It's not as though anyone is asking what each individual's performance is worth. It's what NEW grads are making. Some of us travel and would like to know if we are getting the fairest salary available for the area.

Florida's Panhandle

New grad RN 18-19/hr

LPN 11-12/hr

depends on the size of the facility. LTC pays more than hospitals.

This seems to be a unique phenomena, In my opinion, that nurses are so willing to publicly proclaim their earning potential. Of course it is normal to wonder, but less than professional to discuss publicly

less than professional to discuss amongst coworkers - agreed

on this forum?

who cares...this is anonymous, and NOT the workplace

I'm a new grad RN working in a Level I trauma center in Boston, MA. New grads start at 25.75 an hour (well at this hospital).

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

You are entitled to your opinion.

Personally, to me it's not quite publically discussing our salary. Most of us are being anonymous and we're discussing it on a nursing board. Sure someone whose not a nurse may stumble upon this thread and say "gee those nurses are so unprofessional talking about salary".

Nursing2007 magazine and others post a yearly report on salaries. I think it's interesting to hear what others are making around the country. Another person who is thinking of moving somewhere might be curious to know as well. Students making $8.00 flipping burgers might be encouraged to stay in school knowing there's better things ahead.

I don't discuss my salary in real life with anyone. There's a guy at the bowling alley that is always trying to get my salary out of me and I keep mum.

On an anonymous message board amoung my peers, I don't mind. (But notice I only gave the starting RN salary. Not my personal salary.)

Specializes in Day Surgery/Infusion/ED.

I guess I see it differently. I was brought up that you NEVER ask someone how much money he/she makes. In my area it's considered rude.

Specializes in Geriatrics and emergency medicine.

I work at a small long term care facility in SW PA. Started out at 17.00/hr as an LPN with years of experience. Add shift diff, OT, bonuses for working off my sihift, (call offs, schedule changes ect). Was working agency for 8 years, making $19-22 hr. Got tired of the traveling, settled close to home

:nurse:I don't mind discussing my wages,,,interesting to see what other facilities are paying.

Specializes in Rural Health.

SW Missouri

I've seen RN wages (starting, hospital) as low as $15.58 and I've seen them as high as $20.ISH at an acute long term care facility.

I started at $16.67 as a new grad.

New grads here are starting out at around 20.00/hr this spring. Experience puts you at 25.00 to 28.00/hr depending on unit. Add shift diff, w/e diff and many are looking to 30.00/hr. COL is moderate here.
