My week (please tell me it's over!)

Some of this is funny and some... not so much. Muchas gracias to anyone who reads it -- I just need to hash over things a bit. And let me say up front that no where in this am I asking for medical advice. Words of comfort (RE: BIL) or commiseration (son) are completely welcome.

Let's start with Thursday. I had an interview for the accelerated BSN program that I really, really want to attend. I think it went well, though now I could kick myself about some of my answers. Got home and noticed my son's bookbag on the floor in the living room, and thought "Grr, that kid. I guess I should drive that out to the school." Then I noticed the note from the school nurse and the ice pack sitting next to it. Soon DH and DS arrive. DS had crashed into the bleachers during gym class and had a 1/4 inch diameter puncture wound over his tibia. Received tetorifice shot and prescription for oral antibiotics.

Sunday -- DH called in sick to his job and spent all day with painful stomach cramping and diarrhea. Wheeee. Then my parents called. My brother-in-law has been recovering slowly from a bad motorcycle accident in April. Multiple fractures and TBI. He had just been moved to a SNF and had fallen from the bed (twice) and had a brain bleed. At the point my parents called, the word was that no one thought he'd live long enough to see the neurologist. This turned out to be wrong. He had surgery Sunday evening. My sister is really angry about the fact that he fell (TWICE). The facility had sent someone to evaluate him before he was transferred, and they thought they could take care of him. This has been a long and difficult thing. My sister may be in some denial about his prognosis; I don't know and can't judge that. He is on dialysis, since the first couple of weeks after the accident. He was alert and speaking before being taken in for Sunday's surgery.

Monday (today) -- DS (who needs a new nickname -- something like "crash") used his Boy Scout pocket knife to open a package but opened up the base of his thumb a little bit, too. It was 9 p.m. and the Urgent Care clinic closed at 8. We got home at 11 from the emergency room with 3 stitches in his thumb.

I want to go to bed now. DH is playing "Medal of Honor" or some such on the Playstation downstairs, and it sounds like a small war going on in my family room.

Here's wishing us all a better week....

Aww, I hope you have a better week! I was one of those accident-prone, always in the ER or DRs office kids, funny to be on the other side now. =)

That sounds like my month! January has been a tough month for my family. I will spare you the details. It seems as if the dust is clearing some now, but I am still holding my breath!

Introduce your DH to Doom 3, I dunno if it plays on the playstation... then you can sneak up behind him and laugh as he shats his drawers!

:wink2:

Wow, you are really starting the year off with a bang! Maybe it's a sign that the rest of the year will be smooth sailing. Anyway, I know how it feels, I had to leave work early on Sunday eve. My daughter (13) was at a party:hbsmiley: and I got a call that she fell and had a "huge chunk" out of her chin. ok. Another ER visit. She's ok though, nothing a bunch of stitches couldn't take care of. Now she'll have a nice scar to talk about. I gotta get some of that Mederma stuff.

I hope thing start getting easier for you.

Well that's three things and we know these things run in threes so you should be in for some good news now. Congratulations!:kiss

Mom2 - you poor girl!! I understand and feel for you.:redpinkhe When my boys were young, I used to hate the nurses in our doctors office - they thought it was hysterically funny when I'd drag one of the boys in, when I had been there the day before with another one!:o

I remember the magical time when one son jumped off the stair railing and broke his leg, because his brother told him he could fly like Batman - then the next day another one stuck a wire in an electrical outlet (I had no idea what he was thinking of) and burned the heck out of his hands - THEN a third one broke his thumb at school playing basketball.

I could hear those women in the office snickering, and they'd peek at us sitting there. By then I was NOT in a jolly frame of mind!

Gosh, my hugs to you. Sounds like some of the things in my house. My daughter fell off the couch when she was 2 and broke her left wrist. While she was still in the cast for that, she fell on her ankle and i thought she broke it because she would not walk on it. I took her in to the ER, carrying her with her neon pink cast on her arm, feeling like a total failure. Found out the ankle wasn't broke thank God!! Then when she was 6 she fell off a playground slide and broke her right elbow. And about one month after having that cast removed, she fell once again and broke her left elbow, off of a horse ride thingy. Not fun. Now I am too paranoid to even let her go skating. And she is my "I am not afraid of anything" kid. She has ridden all the big rides at the amusement parks we've gone to. Makes my hair curl. The other child plays hard, falls a lot harder, and has never had a broken anything, and does not go anywhere near big rides.

Thanks to all of you. I'm happy to report no accidents or illnesses today! :rcgtku:

And, Bugaloo, I hope your month improves. Sending positive thoughts your way. :anpom:

I'm sticking with the theory the these things come in 3s, so we're done for awhile.
