"Nurse's discretion"

Translation: we have no intention of giving you any guidance, so you're on your own, but if a family member doesn't like something you said or did, we're totally going to yell at you.

I'm so sorry, that is sad. I do need to know what "just a feeder" and NEC totalis mean. Thank you.

NEC = Necrotizing Entercolitis. Totalis = Less than 25% of the intestine is healthy due to rampant necrosis.

Feeder/growers are those babies who just need to figure out how to eat a little better, grow a little more, and manage all of those systems together, before they can go home.

oy.

leslie

Totally, dude. There are days when I want to change my name so I can completely ignore the "Leslie, call on line 1!" which I hear a bajillion times a shift. Or the whining "Leslie......." from a staff member with a gripe about staffing issues.

"Nurse, Nurse!!"

by a patient's demanding family member that wants you to bring them something from the kitchen.

As a new nurse, my least favorites are "new admit"

and "learning opportunity" which usually either means I have messed up somehow and get to learn from it, or they're making me do something really difficult/complicated that no one's taught me to do yet.

be flexible

means admin is going to do somithing you're not going like especially with staffing

Do you remember

I know three word but my old manager use to do this all the time. Now i work in the lab and she would ask me 2 or more months later do you remember this patient you did 2 to 3 months ago what went on for whatever reason like there was a write up or something. I mean of course i remember every patient 2 or more months laters.
