My turn to share--I beat NCLEX

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hello AN,

I found out that I passed my NCLEX this week, I got 75 questions. I used this site (like most of us) to get clues, confidence, past experiences, and what not on how to tackle and pass NCLEX. I am so thankful for all those who posted who they passed and what worked for them because this guided me in my studies.

I mainly used Kaplan to study, I did all the question trainers and about 700 of the Qbank questions, I wanted to do more but ran out of time. After every test, I reviewed the rationales and wrote notes on things that were new or things that i got right but for the wrong reason, although I read every single rationale. I didn't like Kaplan's content as much so I watched the Hurst videos (one time) and I obtained most of my content from that. I also used Saunders 5th ed (yellow book) to read on some things and I actually ended up using this a lot as well, especially to write notes regarding my rationales.

When I took NCLEX, I was nervous but I felt good throughout the test. I remember what XNavyCorpsMan (I hope that's right, sorry) said about NCLEX not being a difficult test, you just have to think about the answers. And he was right, I really did not think that NCLEX was super hard, especially after doing so many questions from Kaplan which were super hard to me. I also used LaCharity and Lippincott alternate format questions. I got a lot of priority questions and LaCharity book was awesome for that, and their rationales were good. I left the testing center feeling confident, but then felt guilty about feeling confident (weird huh?) and started thinking that I must have done horrible to fail at 75.

The wait for quick results was the worst part, especially because my results were on hold so the PVT wasn't telling me anything. It was torture, I had to wait four days to get QR (as I tested on a Friday afternoon) but I surely passed.

My advice to everyone getting ready to take NCLEX is to do practice questions, read the rationales because this is reviewing content, and be confident that you will pass. I also prayed a lot, and I prayed for almost every single question on my test. And I do believe that God helped me. Also, don't rush through the test, you want to finish and only take the test once. There is no point in rushing. I was always a fast test taker, but I was not playing around with this test

Lastly, thank you for reading and thank you to all of those who posted their stories too, which in a way helped me pass!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I definitely see your point. I wasn't thinking about it, but now that you wrote it I can understand :sorry:

No longer offering the book guys!!! :woot:

I read this from you and did the exact same thing during my test. I was always able to eliminate two and then take my time to decide which one was the best answer after that. The test was not hard and I was worried that I never got to the higher level questions but I think it was because I took my time with each question and asked myself if that answer made sense. I left the testing center confident. Thanks a lot, your reply to someone else's post really helped me

AWWW.. YAY! God is amazing. Congrats!! =)

I would really like the rationale to use when you narrow it down to two correct answers to chose the appropriate answer. All suggestions appreciated

Did you do a Kaplan course or just buy the qbank?

I bought the course and went to the live review but I didn't really like it. I felt that I could have done without it.

Thanks

I went back to basics and used the ABCs and which option was the most dangerous to the patient. The two answers left will always make you think, you just have to be able to pick which one will kill the patient first. I don't know if that makes sense

How long did it take you to finish NCLEX? How do I prevent myself from overthinking/over analyzing questions and second guessing myself. I seem to change my correct answers to wrong answers.

I took my time. I finished in 1.5 hours and I felt that that was enough time. Once you pick an answer, just think about the outcome. Two answers may be similar in importance but there's always one that will kill the patient sort of speak, therefore you pick the one that is the most critical. In order to do this you do have to know general content. For example, I would pick to see a patient who had a paracentesis and has not voided in 4 hours firat over a patient who has had a skull fracture because the first patient is indicating symptoms of shock. You just have to really think about your answer and figure out if it makes sense. Think about ABCs. Hope this helps!! Good luck

wrote my exam on Saturday Feb 28/15, I tried the PVTwith a cc of non sufficient fund and it was declined, though I wrote for MA BON ,but as an international candidate in a Canadian person vue center, I was shut off after 75 questions. Its 10hours since I wrote and I am still getting the bad pop up to check with my credit card institution after entering all correct cc details though there was no sufficient fund. Please do you have the idea of what is going on or may be I failed?

While its early to attempt the pvt as the test is scored twice within 24 hours of completion, right now it looks like you failed. There is a remote chance it could change to a pass. Be careful if you keep entering your credit card & getting declined it could be flagged as s potential fraudulent transaction
