Hello all, I just got hired here in San Antonio, TX as a grad nurse (I passed NCLEX already). The telemetry unit told me that their human resources department will call me with an "offer" and I have no clue what is the brand spanking new nurse pay. I hope not to get low-balled, so what is an acceptable pay for a new nurse here in town? I went to school out of town which put me out of the loop, btw.
Hon, you are lucky to get a first job. Take whatever they offer you. $20-24 would be fine. Some new grads are getting nothing. After you have worked with them for a year, you could get a better paying job.Remember, if you become a 'stale' new grad it goes against you. Just see that it is a good learning opportunity.
I agree with the others' comments. Even here in Dallas with all of our hospitals, we have a ton of nurses not getting graduate nurse spots. Some hospitals are only opening up 10-15 spots this summer. There are over 500 new grad nurses here in Dallas easily trying to get into less than 180 openings...
Good luck!!!
The nursing job market is faring slightly better in Texas than in other states. However, the local employment pool is slowly becoming saturated due to nurses moving here from out of state for work combined with the hundreds of new grads that get churned into the local market. So, its not true that all the RN jobs are in Tx?
The RN jobs tend to come easy in areas that people deem undesirable, such as long term care, rehab, home health, etc.
