My Favorite Pen Has Been Banned! Help!!!!

Published

Other than needing immediate withdrawal assistance from no longer being able to use my FAVORITE Pilot fine point gel ink pen on nursing notes, what do I do now?

I bought a Zebra 301 ball point pen, but the ink stopped flowing in the middle of a word in a nursing note. It feels like writing with a thin copper water pipe.

I need a pen that has the sweet feel of a Sarasa 7.0, the warmth of a Pilot G-2 or G-3. I threw the four dollars worth of Pilot Better Retractables out of the window on route 53.

My PENS have been banned due to their bleeding when a spot of moisture casts the pain of blotching on their legal documents.

Forget XANAX etc, what I need is a pen that won't bleed when hit with water. Help?!!

I use only the Pilot G-2, either extra fine or very fine. They're a pain to find in most stores, so whenever I hit OfficeMax I stock up--mostly blacks and a couple of reds. I always have several tucked in my bag so I'm never without one...I'm getting the other staff hooked on them, and that's the only pen I ever use outside of work too.

At my workplace, I don't think they'll ever have a pen ban: we do all paper charting :D There'd be too much protesting if they did ban any pen.

Hi, my name is Michelle and I am a pen addict.

We are in the process of switching to computer charting at our hospital; our manager made the comment, "You won't even need to carry a pen anymore." I almost passed out. You will NEVER find this RN without a pen!

Hi,

Reading through these responses I find it interesting. I am a nursing student and a waitress. I have tons of pens but at work I usually use crappy pens because I lose them. I do not know types of pens but I dd come across a pen that a nurse gave me during clinicals and I LOVE it!! Well, reading through these I decided to look at it and see which one it was! Guess what?? The Pilot G-2 07!! I am so sorry for your loss!! lol...I hope you find something that works great for you!:)

You will ALWAYS need a pen! What are you gonna take report with? Or sign off Dr orders? LOL!

That said, I like the Uniball Signo 207 gel pens...they don't bleed at all!

Is your hospital going to dictate what pens the DOCTORS use? Heck, I have doctors who write in blue ink when we are only supposed to use black ink but they manage to let them get away with it!

Michelle,

I love it! LMAO!! You sound like you're at an AA meeting, except for Pen Addicts. I would be there right beside you confessing my sick confession. To date, I currently have three large containers full of over 300 pens of all types. Whenever I go someplace with a school/office supply section, I dart over to that section to check out the pens. If nothing else gets purchased from that store, I definitely don't leave without some pens.

I am glad that I am not alone in my vice: pens.

I'm using a uniball 1.0 jetstream. It's retractable, comfort grip and writes smoothly without a ton of pressure. The ink dries quickly - which as a lefty is important so i don't smudge my writing

I know this thread is pretty old, but I am a complete pen addict and connoiseur. I honestly think I own every pen sold in the U.S.

The Uniball Signo 207 or Vision RT would probably be a great replacement pen for the OP. Or if wanting to go the more ballpoint route, the Uniball Jetstream. They are waterproof, etc and prevent check-washing fraud, so they aren't going to wash off your nursing notes!

For clicky pens I'm in love with Pilot Easy Touch. Writes nice, doesn't smear (i'm a lefty)

For capped pens I like Pentel RSVP. I almost like these more than the easy touches, but caps annoy me.

Ditto to that. I recently rediscovered Uniball Signo and am using that along with my Pilot...though I prefer the Signo 205 to the 207--the finer the point, the better the pen for me!

Sakura Sumo Grip for me. Only problem is that they are hard to find and the gel runs down fast. However, I do use them as a drawing tool too, so that may have something to do with the disappearing ink.

Bic medium point sticks are my favorites. I tend to leave my pen behind at the desk and go off down the hall so I wrap tape and rubber bands around the barrel so nobody else would want my ugly pen. Usually works unless somebody is desperate. Been known to conduct a pen shakedown when they disappear!
