Yep... this is why I had an elementary student come to see me today... because their arm touched the wall while they were walking down the hallway. A teacher actually wrote a nurse pass for this!

Seriously?!?!?! Spring break, take me away!!!!

Now I can relate.

Wow, thanks for not supplying a gruesome photo as well. :^)

I'm curious. Why did he (and/or the teacher) think that touching the wall was a health issue?

I'm not in school nursing at the moment, but when I was, I think my most pathetic pass to the nurse's office was "colored on thumb with marker." IT WAS A CRAYOLA WASHABLE MARKER, TOO. And it was a district where I had to log each patient encounter and what I did, so be sure I noted, "Had pt wash hands - problem resolved." Seriously, I get the, "I'm not a medical person!" I heard from teachers so often, but some things are common sense.

When I worked per diem at a boarding high school, I once had a student come to see me and say "my nose hurts when I do this" and then hit himself in the nose. My solution? "Don't do that." Back to class he went.

It must be in the air........Apparently, a very large dog, took multiple dumps on the side field and kids decided to slide around in it. They were sent to the nurse with passes that read " dog mess on shoes"

A few months ago I had junior high students scratching and stabbing each other with thumb tacks (it was the week before Xmas break). I assessed them and then charted "Student advised not to engage in this behavior again. Student voices understanding"

I get "I feel hot, can you take my temperature?" from the kid wearing a jacket, heavy sweatshirt, sweater etc. Good grief! Take off the jacket/sweater and head back to class.

I have a PE teacher (middle school) that frequently sends me old injuries "Mr PE says I need to have this cleaned" and it's a three day old scabbed knee. I just happened an hour ago I asked the student if they have been bathing regularly since the injury "yes". Ok, it gets cleaned enough, go back to class. This is also the teacher who thinks I'm not a "real" nurse so I'm not winning any points with him when I do this

Fifth grader comes in today - "I got slimed."

Evidently this young lady likes to make slime at home, and some got on several areas of her clothes. I offered to call mom - "No she will be mad" - well then (she had already wiped with a paper towel) I guess you have to live with it. I have no clothes and no suggestions, off to class she went.

I love the "my finger hurts when I do this" and student proceeds to bend their finger into an unnatural position or "my elbow hurts when I do this" and the straighten their arm and push on their elbow. I swear I say "Then don't do that" and "Well, then maybe you should stop doing that" about 30 times a day!

I get sent kids that have stepped in poop. Sorry not my specialty.
