I'm jealous! We aren't allowed to tape-record lectures (our school is insanely paranoid about possible HIPAA violations), and we can't bring anything except water into the classroom. Nevertheless, everybody brings snacks in their bag for breaktimes.
I bring blank and filled-in flashcards to class. I can review when we get a few minutes of break, and sometimes I take notes directly onto flashcards instead of rewriting my notes.

Yeah we are lucky. Some instructors don't allow it but most do. HIPAA is not an issue because we NEVER talk about anything that can identify a patient.
It is so helpful to listen to them in the car or working out or lying in bed, it has helped me immensly on exams.
Ye HIPAA is not an issue because we NEVER talk about anything that can identify a patient.
We don't either--it's totally bizarre. The director of the program is convinced that someday a professor is going to be telling us about a case study and accidentally say, "Joe Smith, of 14 Main St., Ourtown, USA, has bowel cancer," and Joe Smith is going to find out about it and sue her. It's crazy.

I wish we were allow to bring drinks and snacks in class. Our lecture is in the auditorium and there are no food or drinks allowed. We are allow to record our lectures and lab, so that is one thing I need to purchase. Do you think it is weird for me to have a separate bag for lecture, lab, and clinical? I'm the type of person that loves bags and ended up getting 3.
Nope its not weird. I have 3 bags: a lecture rolling bag, a clinical bed, and a bag for work ( I'm a lpn).

I bought a recorder and started getting worried it might not be allowed. It's good to know they are allowed at HCC.
And I still need to get a clipboard!
Do you have recommendations for a drug book?

Most instructors allow it but some DO NOT. I always asked the instructor is it ok to record. Any current drug book is fine, as long as you have the ADAMS, pharmacology book that is required you should be fine.

Into class I bring myself and a bag which contains paper, pens and a bottle of water. The way I learn best is to just sit and listen and watch, I make notes later from txtbooks and the lecturers generally give us the slideshows they use. I rarely actually use the paper and pen...but handy to have just in case! My lunch is in the bag too but I dont eat it in class.....that would distract me! lol
On clinicals I ensure that i have my fob watch, a black pen, a little note book and of course a tampon.....imagine getting caught out and didnt have one, that would be embarrassing!
Good to know! I will just ask before I record. I bought one of those livescribe pens and records sound and writing and I hope I get to use it with at least a few instructors. :)

I just bought this lunch bag at target that looks like a tote but is insulated. It's about as high as my largest stainless water jug. Will easily hold my lunch, snacks and several jugs( water and hot tea). My plan is to spend 4 1/2 days at school all day really studying hard and be off Friday at 10 am through the weekend so I can devote to my family.
Was thinking of live scribe pen. Anyone else have experience with it? I do have recorder, highlighters, notecards, printed power points, notebooks, calendar, iPad, textbooks as needed, then my emergency bag- asthma meds, ibuprofen, nail file and clippers, brush, headband, extra cash, lip balm, bandaide glue to seal cuts or nicks, tampon though praying I won't need it after my ablation, and I think that is it.
I know I'm kind of a bag lady but am always prepared :) I think it comes from being mom of 3! My supply pouch also has stapler, scissor, highlighters, colored pencils, paper clips, extra batteries and calculat, mini ruler.
And I drag it all around in my eBag roller backpack. I have had it for years and it still looks brand new.
