Published

My must haves for lecture is:

Digital recorder ( they are allowed at my schooll)

Multi-colored pens on my desk to write notes

Highlighters

A caffeinated beverage ( wish I was allowed to bring moscato), starbucks chai tea latte is a must have for fall and winter !!!!

I often bring my text books too only because sometimes I study right after class but I may not bring it to every lecture, I rarely have time to go through it during class.

Something to munch on ( fruit, chips, chocolate)

Tylenol- just in case a headache comes on

Must haves for clinicals

Mints or gum( I keep the gum discreet0

Tylenol

Tampons- ( nothing like unexpectly coming on your period in all white, had it happen before:smackingf)

Drug book

ppts. to review doing breaks or downtime

ofcourse my steth, penlight, and other needed supplies

Caffeine

Clip board

Scratch paper

Yellow highligher and red pen for notes

i think that is it

Over all I can't live without my 3rd grade looking rolling backpack.

What are your must haves?

We aren't allowed to have anything other than water in the lecture auditorium. Some days I bring my lunch, some days I don't.

I do everything on my laptop so it is with me at all times. I do not take my textbooks because they are not used in lecture. They record our lectures for us so there is no need for a recorder.

We don't have many pockets in our uniforms nor are there lockers for us to use at the sites so I take my clipboard (with extra paper), pens, penlight, and stethoscope.

We were told not to bring anything to clinical that doesn't fit in our pockets.

I have a tiny wallet that holds my license, CC, $, tampon, IBU, and car key. Two pens, small notebook, RNotes, stethoscope. That should do it, right??

lecture:

hoodie- class is always freezing

tumbler with coffee or tea to keep me awake, if its serious a 20oz red bull, and i usually have a bottle of fiji water on hand too..

iclicker b/c its required.

my tiny pink bag that has my pens/pencils/highlighters/post it notes etc..

macbook pro..i use it to either type my notes or look crap up , or ref. my textbook (digital copy

binder with powerpoint print outs, notes etc..

planner!- i dont go anywhere without it!...have to write down all the important tests and such

backpack- carries all this nonsense in it, along with my girlie things (tampons, lotion, rx, advil heheh)

clinical:

-stethoscope,penlight,trauma shears, bandage shears, spare pair of gloves *always*

-clinical paperwork thats necessary, but more often than naught, i have a worksheet that i use to put my patient information on and keep that in my pocket and it pretty much tells me everything i need.sometimes i bring my clipboard, but never really need it.

-lunch bag, i throw my car keys in there, and my debit card.

-4 color pen :)

all in all, i really like to travel light when i go to school, i really dont care to carry my whole life on my back for a 8hr day. and if i really need my book, ill check one out from the library or ill bring my combo lock and leave it in a locker so i can grab it and not have to walk the 2 blocks to the parking lot..(ya our parking sucks..its downtownn lol)

very great ideas !!!! you remind me that i have to bring my hoodie too ! i'm always cold in class. i almost wish i can bring my snuggie, lol. i can't live without my planner either.

one change i will make this year is not to bring my textbooks to class but only when i study. i almost never study right after class due to my brain being fried after a 4 hour lecture. so i plan to travel light this semester.

Good to know! I will just ask before I record. I bought one of those livescribe pens and records sound and writing and I hope I get to use it with at least a few instructors. :)

Sounds good !!! Good luck in your first semester.

RE: Livescribe Pens. Has anyone had good experiences with these? I have read a lot of conflicting reviews but most of them were from last year. I am hoping they have fixed their issue with software and what not. I would love to get one if it will work for lectures. Any feedback is appreciated.

Cheers

So today I just bought some note tabs, they are WONDERFUL ! I used them all last semester. They are thick and I'm able to tab pages of my book and ppts. I'm able to write on them and have so much space to right.

I have the livescibe pen and like it alot so far. Now I have really only been playing around with it but with the silly things I have used it for it has worked just fine! It does what it says and I have no complains. I remember reading the conflicting reviews but for me, there were way more people that loved it and had no problems so I decided to give it a try. The real test will be when I use it for lectures that are a couple of hours long. But with my 10 minute tests it has worked great!

Right now the 4gb echo is 125 on Amazon which is the cheapest I have seen it in the last few months.

Sounds good !!! Good luck in your first semester.

Thanks! I'm getting pretty excited and nervous at the same time. :)

Yes, I'm nervous and excited too ! I already started studying lol.

So far I have started to make medications charts for each of my classes, I plan to finish them by time school starts.

I also started the readings and plan to skim over all the readings before class starts as well. I got the syllabus and already started to review required videos.

I hope my head start pays off !

That's awesome! I thought I was being proactive but yet you are still way ahead of me! :o lol

I've started reading the "Test Success" book for nurses which has been awesome. I've been reviewing my anatomy and physiology and I just ordered the "calculate with confidence" book and am planning on working through it some before school starts. I wish they would put the syllabus out already so I could see what type of work load I'll have. They haven't put ours out yet and I am getting anxious!!
