Music for stress relief

Nurses Stress 101

Published

I don't know about others on this thread, but music is what gets me through those tough days at work. I have not seen any other threads in regards to this so I figured I would make one. I'm just curious to see if other nurses out there listen to music to relief stress, and what types of music? I think there are some generational differences on this site and I am very interested to hear what some older nurses listen to as well.

Personally, I listen to primarily electronica, punk, some rap, and really most music that sounds good to me. :) I am a new grad so I am now getting used to the steady paycheck. The first few months of work I had no idea how to budget and ended up spending all my money. My plan now is to see at least one live band a month, and that will be the one day where I let loose. This way I have something to look forward to each month and I'm not going out each weekend. I just saw Thrice, Alkaline trio, and Rise Against. :)

The song that got me through nursing school (useless by kruder and dorfmeister) check it out!

A little Josh Groban is never a bad idea. Another band I listen to is Atmosphere.

For relaxing, I like stuff from Celtic Woman, Josh Groban, Jack Johnson and George Winston.

I had to figure by looking at your avatar name ;) . I do like George Winston though!

Something about Mozart relaxes me, and I literally feel like my mind is balancing. I can't describe the balancing thing, but it just feels that way.

I listen to Enya or Lorenna McKennit to relax. Of course I also listen to Pure Moods CD's as well as Seal, Queen, Classical, Soft Rock, Oldies...whatever I find on that gets the tension out or keeps me awake. I honestly have a pretty eclectic taste in music. My best CD right now is The Beatle's "Love" album.

I usually listen to classic music to make me relax.

I listen to rock music. I remeber one time I was pulling into a work and a nurse that worked on my unit, parked next to me. she looked at me in shock ,because I was listening to rock music so loudly in my car that my windows were vibrating a little.

I generally listen to alternative, indie, classic rock, some pop-ish stuff occasionally, some rap occasionally. Never been the classical type but I tell you what, a couple weeks ago I went to the symphony for a Beethoven performance and it was the most relaxing experience I've had in a long time. I LOVED IT. I highly recommend it. Something about watching those people play such old music on actual instruments that have been around for so long.....

Two words....Jimmy Buffett!

Specializes in tele, oncology.

I tend to listen to alternative/heavy stuff...I love Foo Fighters, the new Offspring song (You're Gonna Go Far) rocks, Nine Inch Nails, Killers...I'm tired so I'm sure that the list is far from complete. I like music that I can rock out to :)

Since I work nights, and the halls are darkened, I wire a ear piece under my uniform to my ear from my mp3 player. I find if I listen to music, not only does it lower my stress, but helps me keep up the pace I have to follow. I have a 30 bed assignment on a subacute floor. 5 trachs, 5 iv's and 12 feeding tubes and various wounds and of course med pass. The paperwork is overwhelming. I pray before I go, and have found many time saving ideas, but the music helps me keep up my pace.knowledge.png

For stress relief, I prefer to play music than listen ...... straight up old fashioned hard-driving rock'n'roll and blues, through my electric guitar and tube amp ...... pure nirvana, when needed (neighbors may beg to differ :D). Tone is where the heart is ....

Specializes in ICU/Critical Care.

I love music for stress relief. I would take my little MP3 player with me to work, but I'd get into trouble. My fav artists to listen to: Nine inch Nails, Tori Amos, David Bowie, Rammstein, Depeche Mode, The Killers, The Cure, Duran Duran, HIM, Dimmu-Borgir, Placebo, PJ Harvey, Queen, The Beatles, Nirvana, John Lennon, Sting, Within Temptation....

I could go on forever..
