I've read many different things on different threads on this site and it was very informative, by the way. Let me start by saying that I am an African American female in the Air Force (Active duty) and I'm researching the idea to apply to go into the Air Guard or the Reserves (Called Palace Chase). This entails finding a new "home base" and applying for the Guard or Reserve there. Since they don't have my job choices around my area I'm deciding to look into moving to a new location entirely. I'm currently about to begin my upper-level courses in Behavioral Sciences at Wilmington University in Delaware and planned on pursing my BSN with the nursing school in southern Delaware. Attending UMET would mean that I would/could skip the first BS in Behavioral Sciences all together and go right into Nursing. Nursing isn't ultimately where i want to end up in life but I love science and I love helping people and being useful, so Nursing seems to fit me naturally. I'm prepared to put in the work, especially in a "dream" location like PR. My Spanish is very decent, however I know i would do better in their English Nursing program. I'm really excited to get help from you guys on how to access the school. Hearing your stories and suggestions would be very helpful and motivating. I'm usually a very self-motivated person but after spending so many years doing everything on my own, it'd be nice to lean on some decent advice for a change! Help a sista out!! Post, message, email, send links, contacts, phone numbers, and I'll be doing my own research of course on my end as well. I'm always looking for an opportunity to travel, but it would be especially neat to live and learn in Puerto Rico, as Spanish has become my second language and I really don't have many people to speak it with to perfect it. I hate leaving things undone! So I've blabbed enough, hopefully I've painted you a pretty little picture of what I'm looking for. Ask and comment away... go! :) Bless ya.

Stephanie yes you probably can. It just depends on the classes that are available at that time since they tend to go in order (sometimes lol) Call the school and ask for the bilingual nursing director

Thank you for starting this post, ontobetterthings, I have applied to UMET Bayamon Campus and still am cautious. The bilingual program is at night; which means I would have to walk home at night. I have heard that Bayamon is a pretty dangerous places and there are many scary stories about the city....But, I'm hoping that at least by the campus I can find a place to stay and that walking at night from campus isn't a death wish.....

I cannot imagine walking in that area at night. Just sayin'. Are you sure Bayamon campus offers nursing? I thought it was only the Cupey campus.

Bayamon offers the English program. And students walk. Some carpool also.

I attend the bilingual program at Interamerican University of Puerto Rico - Metropolitan Campus (Inter Metro), but I've heard good things (and some negative - but the same could be said about my own program) about the UMET program. I would always suggest coming down checking out the campus, talking to students, - it's always the best way to get a handle of how things are going.

I agree with Jen, there will always be dangerous areas in a big city, it's all about being wise and doing your best to avoid bad scenarios (walk with others/carpool, etc). From Cupey (Inter Metro), I tend to carpool with friends that live near me by the beach - so it works for us. And on the days that I have a more hectic schedule - I just drive back and forth myself. It seems for both schools, our English program is at night - so safety is about being aware and taking all the necessary precautions you would at home and apply them to your time in PR.

Ontobetterthings, I'm excited for you and wish you all the best...but from my own decision to come to InterMetro - I think once you send in your applications - you should take the time to come down and scope out the areas where you may live - where the school is - so that YOU know what life will be like. :)

Because life here is not easy! Lol i leave in August and though i was born here i can't wait to go back to the states! Lol but visit both schools and check which one is Better for you. And enjoy this beautiful island as much as you can.

Does anyone have a good contact at InterAmerican. My problem is that I am ready to start school in UMET, but have no place to stay. The other school, Inter-American seems to do better at helping students a place to stay. I am suppose to fly in on Wednesday...this is kinda a panicked situation...

Hi. I'm the current President of the InterMetro Nursing Students Association. I know our school has a short term dorm of sorts, called Casa Carmona. But it's on campus. I'm not too familar with UMET in terms of what they may offer. But finding a place would be dependant on where your campus is located. You may have to get a hotel/motel for the time being and look for a place to live on clasificadosonline.
