There's a better school in Puerto Rico than UMET, don't go there.

Better play it safe and stay enlisted in the Air Force

I've read many different things on different threads on this site and it was very informative, by the way. Let me start by saying that I am an African American female in the Air Force (Active duty) and I'm researching the idea to apply to go into the Air Guard or the Reserves (Called Palace Chase). This entails finding a new "home base" and applying for the Guard or Reserve there. Since they don't have my job choices around my area I'm deciding to look into moving to a new location entirely. I'm currently about to begin my upper-level courses in Behavioral Sciences at Wilmington University in Delaware and planned on pursing my BSN with the nursing school in southern Delaware. Attending UMET would mean that I would/could skip the first BS in Behavioral Sciences all together and go right into Nursing. Nursing isn't ultimately where i want to end up in life but I love science and I love helping people and being useful, so Nursing seems to fit me naturally. I'm prepared to put in the work, especially in a "dream" location like PR. My Spanish is very decent, however I know i would do better in their English Nursing program. I'm really excited to get help from you guys on how to access the school. Hearing your stories and suggestions would be very helpful and motivating. I'm usually a very self-motivated person but after spending so many years doing everything on my own, it'd be nice to lean on some decent advice for a change! Help a sista out!! Post, message, email, send links, contacts, phone numbers, and I'll be doing my own research of course on my end as well. I'm always looking for an opportunity to travel, but it would be especially neat to live and learn in Puerto Rico, as Spanish has become my second language and I really don't have many people to speak it with to perfect it. I hate leaving things undone! So I've blabbed enough, hopefully I've painted you a pretty little picture of what I'm looking for. Ask and comment away... go! :) Bless ya.

I attend the bilingual program at Interamerican University of Puerto Rico - Metropolitan Campus (Inter Metro), but I've heard good things (and some negative - but the same could be said about my own program) about the UMET program. I would always suggest coming down checking out the campus, talking to students, - it's always the best way to get a handle of how things are going.

I agree with Jen, there will always be dangerous areas in a big city, it's all about being wise and doing your best to avoid bad scenarios (walk with others/carpool, etc). From Cupey (Inter Metro), I tend to carpool with friends that live near me by the beach - so it works for us. And on the days that I have a more hectic schedule - I just drive back and forth myself. It seems for both schools, our English program is at night - so safety is about being aware and taking all the necessary precautions you would at home and apply them to your time in PR.

Ontobetterthings, I'm excited for you and wish you all the best...but from my own decision to come to InterMetro - I think once you send in your applications - you should take the time to come down and scope out the areas where you may live - where the school is - so that YOU know what life will be like. :)

Hi Istsmile,

Thank you so much for all the info you sharing with us. I got a few question, is August the only time they admit people in? do they also offer ADN? Do they offer LPN to BSN? I have an AA and my LPN, hope to get some credit transfer.

Thank you again

$2000 a semester sounds amazing! My semesters are $5200 and that's only with pre-reqs! I start my nursing classes in May and I can only imagine!

Hoping to visit the campus in April 2014 to register for classes, find a place to rent in July and start classes in Aug 2014. Thanks for all the great information on this topic.

No they do allow some people at the director's discretion to enter in Nov. If you enter in Feb you're usually doing pre-reqs. But you can do them online as I did and save on room and board and just head back home. They do offer an ADN and they do accept some transfer credits. I'm not certain about how much of the LPN they would (if they even would) transfer... but I guess speak with the nursing dept when you come :) or when you get your paper that says what was transferred

Jen_Jen88 do you know if UMET takes CLEP exam results for Spanish I,II ?

dzcafe, have you received any more information about the UMET program? I would love to find out more about the BSN program. I speak fluent Spanish (Central American), but I would like to do the English program. I have been advised by many that the English program will be easier to pass NCLEX-RN.

If you have more information, please share! Thanks.

Hello! I was wondering if UMET or InterAmericana has an LVN-RN/BSN program or will it be as if I'm starting over again?

I'm only hearing bits of information through friends. I'm from CA and plan to check out Puerto Rico asap before the program starts.

I'm not certain about UMET b/c I don't attend. But I know with Inter Metro - They only have an ASN or BSN program. I know somethings are transferable - but that's up to admissions/nursing dept.

Hi, Does anyone know if UMET accepts people with DUI for BSN program? I have a case from October but i was convicted this March 2014, finished the DUI program today but still on probation. Will the Certificate of Good Conduct from Puerto Rico be given to me?

Also, does anyone know how to do the Certificate of Good Conduct online on pr.gov? I tried, it kept giving me an error.

I need help with Bayamon campus? Can someone please help me out, i am ready to go but have a DUI and wondering if that will be an issue.

Hello all, I studied with Jen at UMET and also graduated in Summer of 2013 and now an RN in Texas. With regards to the DUI, if it occured in the states it won't show up in Puerto Rico, their systems are not connected. You could essentially get in and graduate HOWEVER you need to understand that it will hurt you later when you try to apply for a nursing license in the states through NCLEX.

You CANNOT get a certificate of good conduct unless you have a Puerto Rico address hence why you are recieving the error.

Thanks Flrican for your prompt reply. I am aware i will be delayed to take my NCLEX boards because of my DUI but that is something I am already prepared for, just want to get started on my education for now...

For the certificate, do i need to physically move to PR and before i start the program get the certificate?
