Mount Sinai ABSN Summer 2020

Published

Hi all,

Has anyone applied to and/or gotten an admission decision from Mount Sinai PSON for the ABSN program starting Summer 2020?

Thanks!

@Alpha Lyrae I have recently heard similar things about Mount Sinai's program, unfortunately.

I can tell you from first-hand experience, the situation at Pace is absolutely nothing compared to what’s going on at Mount Sinai, but that’s all I will say.

If you have any questions regarding Pace, I would recommend going into the forum from last year and asking the students themselves.

Thank you, @Alpha Lyrae. I appreciate getting any information I can. I am deciding between NYU, Wagner, and Mount Sinai. I thought I would go with Mount Sinai, but some things I have heard about Mount Sinai were alarming to me, but it is way cheaper than both NYU and Wagner so I am having difficulty choosing.

Can you please tell me the alarming tings you heard? I'm trying to deciding between schools as well. I'm having a hard time creating the pro's and con's list LOL

So I will tell you what I was told by current and former students, but I just want to be sure to clarify that I AM NOT saying this is accurate information. I had heard that the program at Mount Sinai has changed a lot, many of the good faculty is leaving and the remaining faculty is not helpful. It was advertised as a hybrid program, but it is not. I assume this is because they are moving to a new building, but no longer being hybrid was not communicated to me. I heard students often have to fight for good grades and you constantly feel like you are on the chopping block and at risk of failing. On the other side, I did hear from one student that this is true to an extent, but if you just keep your head down and work super hard, you will get through it and pass the NCLEX, but it won't necessarily be an enjoyable experience. Comparatively, every Wagner and NYU student have expressed that their ABSN programs were challenging, only had positive things to say about those programs.

Does anyone know about the grading scale at PSON? What's considered a passing grade?

I have a friend who currently attends NYU, and she told me that the students there are also consistently fighting for good grades. She mentioned how she feels that the professors do not listen to the students and do not provide much help outside of the classroom. I think a lot of it is subjective. All ABSN programs seem unorganized to a certain extent. I think we'd just have to find study methods that best suit us individually and try our hardest, which would require us to sacrifice a lot.

Totally agree it is subjective because I heard different feedback on NYU. I also went to law school and worked as a lawyer for a few years so I am used to having to do your own work outside of class and figure things out yourself whereas students right out of undergrad may not. Because of that, I also don't know how much credence to give to those specific concerns (I.e., teachers not providing much help outside of the classroom). I am also in a situation where I know I want to go for NP, NYU has those programs and they give preference to their students for both the NP programs and employment at NYU. Mount Sinai is like half the price, but it is a newer, less established program. I think to some extent, the decision depends on what factors are most important to you.

Guys for the millionth time, this is just the true nature of an accelerated nursing program..

You are going to hear similar stories no matter which program you attend. You just need to fight through it and remain passionate. If you are entering this field for the salary and three day work week, you are going to probably quit within the first week of work. People’s opinions are often subjective although some of them may be true, you have to make it an enjoyable experience on your own.

With that said, I still stand by my original post indicating that Pace should be avoided at all costs.

I understand what you are saying, but what you are saying about Pace, I have heard about Mount Sinai. I heard even worse things that I will not discuss here. I am clearly stating, I do not know if what I heard is true. I did not hear similar stories about other programs. I, and I think others here, are making a life changing decision. I am not going into this for money or a three day work week. I am changing my entire career and life for this so I think its fair to want to be on a forum sharing thoughts and feedback regarding what we have heard and what we are considering to help each other think things through and make the right decision.

Good luck everyone!
