I've seen it done, once. Thought I was tough enough to watch after working a lot of postpartum, but the minute Mom began to chow down I knew I was going to yak. So I excused myself and left. Even remembering it makes my stomach stand on end.........bleah.

This is done a lot in other countries. Some people believe that placenta is the best health food of all. Chock full of nutrients and especially good for anemia. Placenta is in all sorts of shampoos, cream rinses, facials etc. SOme people also bury it and perform ceremonies around it. It is pretty amazing to think that the body actually grows and organ and then discards it when it is done with it. It's not my cup of tea, but hey, to each his/her own

Eating a placenta seems like a form of cannibalism to me. Very disturbing.
In my mind, I picture a wild-eyed half werewolf, half human doing something like that.
I started to read the article from the link it the first post- and boy, do I regret that. I feel sick now.
Horror, horror!
I know some other cultures don't see it that way, it's fine for them, but oh my, I feel awful just thinking about it.

Yuck. Even most of my mom-cats won't touch 'em. The ones that do, I let them eat one, for the oxytocin, and that's it. I can hardly stand to watch.
