Most easy job in Nursing?

No one is going to say that their area of nursing is easy. I might recommend school nursing.. I haven't done it, so I'm not sure... but I know you don't have too much to do with doctors, but still have influence on the kids... I think it would be rewarding, plus you get weekends and summers off. The jobs are posted on school district websites, and usually nowhere else.

Before a school nurse is offended... I'm not saying your job is any easier than any other, just different.

A free standing surgery center. Doing the pre-op nursing. So you stay out of the OR. You don't work weekends or holidays.

I have a friend who does this, part-time as she has little kids. It works perfectly for her family life.

I worked for a managed healthcare corporation that pretty much covered all of your requirements. Even #7, as they went out of their way to assist folks in getting the medical equipment they needed. Really.

I covered durable medical equipment, working 8-5, M-F. Sat in a cubicle, in my ergonomically correct chair, with two computers in front of me, attempting to get patient's needs (according to their insurance policies) fulfilled. Made calls to the patients, doctor's offices etc. Pay was good too.

Only problem (for me) was the office atmosphere, with backstabbing, b*tchy coworkers, and sitting there hour after hour doing the same thing. Not being a morning person, I had real trouble staying awake. :uhoh3: Looking back, maybe I could have put up with it better than I did, and sounds like it might be something for you to look into.

I feel for you. I've always thought the O.R. would be a great place to work, but prima donna physicians would put a damper on that, I'm sure.

Personally I don't think there are any (well, not many anyhow) good nursing jobs out there anymore. Plenty of jobs, but few ones that can make it a pleasure to go to work. Hope you find something you can live with! :icon_hug:

Working in a physicians office would meet your qualifications. The problem would be salary. I do know several RN's who make what they did in the hospital but because the doctors asked them to come to work for them and then of course couldn't offer them less.

I love HH. I don't take call but that's because I can't drive at night due to my eye disease. Fuchs Corneal Dystrophy. However the girls I work with only take call once every 6 weeks and are not expected to go out after 1900. If it's that urgent then the patient is told to go to the ER. No weekends, no nights.

I'm sorry you're experiencing job stress. Been there, done that, it's awful. God Bless.

Hey, I used to work for a neurosurgical group and boy, do I know dealing with surgeons can really be a pain! I once heard a j/k about the difference between God and a surgeon...the difference? God didn't think he was a surgeon...:chuckle Funny thing was, one of our doc's initials actually were G.O.D. :uhoh3:

Anyways, on to your quest for a new career/nursing environment. You know what one of the best nursing jobs was that I ever had? Public health nursing! 8-5, M-F, real flexible - could actually schedule MD appts, hair appts, etc...lol And you know it was really rewarding too, I felt like I was actually contributing to the better good of society, lot's of education and community resource outreach. Didn't pay hardly anything though - there's always that.

I applied to the unemployment office in my town. I got a letter, telling me about a job as a Head Start Nurse. The hours are 8-3 M-Tr and 8-4 on Fridays, I get to teach kids about all kinds of things. We do physicals, eyes, ears lice. :uhoh3:

I start April 10th!! :balloons: I can't wait!! Right now I work 11-7 through the week and 7p-7a on the weekends. I HATE it. I have had to learn EVERYTHING on my own. I am taking a pay cut. I make $17.85 an hr now, have to work weekends, holidays, and birthdays, don't earn PTO until I've been there 3 months, and don't have a permanent name tag,

The new job pays $14.61 an hr, I get weekends off, 30 PTO days and 11 PAID DAYS OFF!!! I get New Years Day, Christmas [2 days], Thanksgiving [2 days], Labor Day, President's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Easter, Verteran's Day, and Good Friday. If I worked during the summer I would also get July 4th and Memorial Day off.

Apply to your unemployment office. Here in Indiana it's called "Work One."

I work in Care Coordination/Social Work at my hospital. Not too many weekends, about 1 every 8-10 weeks. Call for a week of nights about every 3 months, and the beeper rarely goes off. When it does, you can usually deal with it by phone.

Not as stress free as some jobs, but the M-F primary hours 7:30 to 4:00 w/ flexible options for coming in early/leaving early makes it an attractive one, esp as I'm a single parent. Sometimes docs can be gripey with us when we have to nag them over things, but mostly we all get along well. The autononmy is a selling point to my job, too.

Surgery center? I have thought about it too. I just hope that the surgeons over there are less demanding. So your friend doesn't have to work holidays because the surgery center doesn't open on holidays? That's great!

Anyhow, I have thought about the pre-op nursing too, it seems to be easier than regular floor nursing but the RNs over there, still have to deal with the arrogant surgeons. :madface:

I have little kids too. Maybe it will work for me. I will get some experience from my work now and try something else later. There is still light at the end of the tunnel... :idea:

School nursing? that sounds great but don't they need bachelor degree?:uhoh21:

Hey managed health care corp? What title do you have? (I mean if I look for that kind of job, what should I look for on the paper?) Do they only hire RN with a bachelor degree? What kind of experience do I need to be in this kind of job?

I used to work for a major managed health care corp. I worked in the office as a data loading analyst. I love the job because I could stay in my cubical and stared at my kids pictures sometimes while I was working. I don't think I would mind the back-stabbing people because we have a lot in the OR. And I usually can stay away from them.

You know that I pray and pray and pray everyday at work? I have never felt so stressed out before. I think if it is not God, I will not be able to stay at work for the entire day.

Thanks for your advice, I think I will not try HH because I hate driving.

And I also have heard horrible stories...

Maybe I will consider working in a clinic. I just will have to find the nice docs to work with.
