Most easy job in Nursing?

Nurses General Nursing

Updated:   Published

I am currently working in the OR and I used to work on the floor. After 3 months of the OR training, I am already sick of the verbal abuse from both surgeons and anesthesiologists.

I am wondering what will be the best job in nursing that...

1. I don't have to be on call

2. I don't have to work nights

3. I will have regular day shift hours

4. I will get Sat and Sun off

5. I don't have to take care of 7 patients and break my back

6. I don't have to stay 2 hours extra every day to chart

7. I will feel that I have accomplished something at the end of the day

8. I will not be yelled at by some doctors or surgeons

I feel like I am in the wrong field. What should I do? Do you feel the same as I do? I am depressed most of the time and I drag my feet to go to work. I want to call in sick all the time.

Ambulatory surgery pre-op is an excellent job. I did it PRN (ended up with 40 hrs/week because I wanted to). Being in an ambulatory center, all patients are pre-screened and you have relatively healthy adults having elective surgeries. Dealt some with the surgeons, not too bad. The staff had a much better attitude because no one felt put upon since we didn't work weekends, nothing after 7 pm, and we had Thanksgiving (2days), Christmas (2 days), New Years (2 days), July 4, Labor and Memorial days too. We were also thanked with a gift quarterly if we were mentioned in a positive light in a patient survey during that quarter. We were often brought lunch or given gift certificates for doing something (like all the office staff called in for snow, all the nurses made it in) So the nurses all got $25 to a local store. Not to mention in surgery, you wear their scrubs and don't have to take all those germs home with you. Loved that too.

Specializes in Ortho, long term.

Maybe try another hospital. I know my local hospital doesn’t put up with doctors treating the nurse like crap. The nurse can write up a doctor if they get out of hand or disrespectful and after three write ups they are not a loud to practice at the hospital any more.

Specializes in Management, Emergency, Psych, Med Surg.

Prison nursing

I have the same problem. I hate this job. I made a mistake to study nursing . I'm going work depressed thinking how I can come out from this situation

Public health. I'm doing a placement in a health unit right now and the nurse that is my preceptor literally works 830-430 mon-fri doing immunization clinics and follow ups for reportable diseases. She has an office and goes to yoga every day at lunch and has it so easy holy crap.

My friend does this and loves it. M-F, 8-5, no weekends, no mandated overtime, no nights, great pay, great benefits.

Do NOT give up! You just haven't found your knitch. Not everyone was made to work in the hospital. I e been a home health nurse for over 10 years now. You learn to become very independent as a HH nurse. You get to make your own schedule. Weekends vary with each

company. Sometimes you won't have to pick up a weekend but every 6 weeks. The money is awesome with HH. I am a single mom and I was able to take my girls to school and be home before they walked through those doors. Complete

flexibility. There are some days you will be done working after 4 hours. You can run errands in between patients. You are your own boss. In HH we do everything. From wounds, IV therapy, pleura-vacs to pure and simple education. Or even just simple blood pressure checks. Might want to look into HH. Just don't ever give up!

My sister works at home hospice care- Monday through Friday 9-5pm. a majority of her time working is spent driving to patient's houses. Of course the only downside is your doing a lot of cleaning deceased bodies, and comforting grieving families..

In my opinion EVERY job sucks and your probably best off just staying there unless you find something that pays more.
