We use Taylor's videos and I like them a lot. They are wicked corny, but they have good information. I've never seen the Mosby's ones though.

We use them at my school and they're pretty good. Of course there are going to be things that are done differently in your program (or at your hospital) from how they are shown in the videos, but it can give you a pretty good idea of how things go.
the set I am looking at getting has begining skills (cna type stuff) and intermediate skills (IV, wound care, ng tubes...). I want to get it because I will have a 2 month wait from the time I finish gen eds to the start of core. I thought it would be an effortless way to familiarize myself before class.
I think it's a great idea. I don't know if you've had patient care experience or not, but these seemed very helpful to those in class who had not had any sort of experience and, frankly, were a little freaked out about the basics. So I think it's a great jumping-off point for you prior to starting labs/clinicals. If you've done CNA-type work then you could just skip over that DVD altogether.
I will caution you not to watch these videos while hanging out in a coffee shop or with kids in the room...they use real-life "patients" and there is nudity of course. I didn't think too much about that until I was watching the various type of urinary catheterizations while eating pizza and talking to my hubby. He wasn't impressed!

Regarding the Mosby's Nursing skill dvd's, I would have to agree on this purchase. However, one must keep in mind that every hospital has their own way of performing any given procedure. Having said that, don't state the obvious and say " I was taught to do it this way", in my 35+ years of nursing I have come to a conclusion that everyone has a different method to achieve the same goal. Unquestionably, you must follow your book & guidance of your instructor or facility for that matter, remember "Do as I say... not as I do":nurse:... Lastly, I would like to wish you the best in your future endeavors~
I did take a cna course last year but decided not to get certified. The basic skills will be a refresher for that. I went ahead and purchased them. I got the full set on Amazon for $70. I figured that works out to $35 each of the two months for the review. Not too bad.
