I've had the opportunity to see this dz entity (that's what patient said and I read her records from another physician) in my practice. Patient had been dx with fibromyalgia. This individual actually was dx with scabies and was treated without success prior to my seeing her. Tx modalities included psych referral.....and, finally was dx delusional.

I have no real evidenced-based opinion.

I saw this on drudgereport several weeks ago. http://www.ktvu.com/news/9264350/detail.html . There was another article on drudereport how it affected many in texas and the southwest, I'll see if I can find it.

Remember when it was thought that menstrual cramps were a manifestation of member envy, and therefore, psychological?

Remember when mental illness was thought to be demon possession, and not a real illness?

I do not think Morgellan's can be discounted before it is thoroughly studied:

"Dr. Rhonda Casey, from Oklahoma State University, says "I would challenge any of these physicians who think that we are just feeding into the delusions to come and examine a group of these patients and see what I've seen."

 It could be a disease. . . . or is it a microscopic alien invasion of fiberous beings. :lol2:

Just kidding. It's very interesting. I think that sometimes we are too quick to discount things we don't understand and label them as "psycho-syomatic". I'll be interested to know how it turns out.

100 cases, all with the same symptoms, all exposed to the flood waters (according to one report) doesn't sound psychosomatic to me!

Which flood was this? Post a link to the report if you can. That information would definitely further our discussion.

As a side note, who types the Internet articles for local news stations? I know the station's expertise is in broadcast and not print, but all three of the above links have contained some distracting errors that make me question the sources.

I don't know who types for them, or anything about a flood, sorry. Just trying to understand what's going with this...

Very bizarre stuff. From what some of these articles are saying it's being seen in Lousiana, Texas, California and Florida.

Sorry - what I meant was a link to the report of 100 patients who had all been exposed to floodwaters. More good links though.

Oops, sorry, I meant to clarify that. That was speculation by some residents of New Orleans(on another board) who are watching these cases.
