I work in a LTC in the rural south. We see rather unusual names, too. If the person is from smith county, you have to pronounce the ending of every name as "er."

Oh, my goodness, BHollisRNMS, I am from Jones County, MS and my first name ends with an "a", but my Mamaw always pronounced it with a "r", e.g. Brender for Brenda!

I've taken care of a gentleman on several occasions named "Baby Boy T_____." I didn't fill in the last name but I swear that was the name on the ID/license!!

Also triaged a set of twin boys named Hunter & Fisher. Mom (who was pregnant) said SHE was naming the next baby!

My son's name is Truman...I haven't seen too many...thank goodness...we try and avoid mainstream when at all possible!

I work in a nursing home in Douglas, Georgia. Way down south. We have residents that live there with the following names: 2 are named Georgia, one is named America and one has the last name of Douglas. Mae Bell also seems to be a common name. Mae is also a common middle name, addie mae, sallie mae, ollie mae and hattie mae....

Remember on the Cosby show when the oldest daughter named her twins Winnie and Nelson? There must have been some chagrin when it all hit the fan and Winnie got in so much trouble. In the book "Interns" (an anthology penned by four actual ped interns from a large New York City medical center), one of the interns says twins named Winston and Salem came into the ER with their Mom one night.

We had a patient name her baby Coltrain Radio (those were the first and middle names. I personally had two different women name their boys Dequant and Dequand. They were actually in the same room at different times. I thought that was amazing!I also heard of a grand multip who named her daughter Placenta because she liked the sound of the name!

We actually have a neurologist at our facility who is Dr. Spass (pronouned spaz). There is a Dr. Sheldon Cherry (maybe retired now) who is an OB/GYN in NYC. We also have a pediatrician whose first name is Hertzler (nickname hertz) but they can't have the kids call him "Dr. Hertz (hurts) in the office. Can you see why? Too bad, too, because that particular practice likes the kids to call the docs by their first names: Dr. Bill, Dr. Tom, Dr. Linda, etc.

Hallelujah Horseman

Dr. Ken Hurts (I believe he's a dentist, near Albuquerque)

Harry Balls, at one time mayor of Fort Wayne Sweetie Givens ( a man, father of 8 or 10 kids)

Jack Ripper, a state representative in Oregon in the 60's, I think

Holly Vaale, pronounced like volley. This was a married name

Elder Dull, for a short time pastor of the SDA church in Boring, Oregon

Then there's the doctors--Dr. Loveless, AIDS specialist; Dr. Kidd, pediatrician; Dr. Cutter, GYN surgeon, Dr. Boyles, my mother's doctor for many years; Mickey Finn, anesthesiologist

I love these things!

FYI - I live in Ft Wayne and I think it is spelled Harry Baals - we have a street named after him - Harry S. Baals Drive.

I saw an obituary for a newborn last week, Celestial Waters

I'm naming my little girl Chordelia! lol.. It may sound weird but i love it!

I used to read the Anne of Green Gables books, and Anne wanted to call herself Lady Cordelia, because "Anne with an E" was too plain. I have always loved that name!

I have a friend who named her little girls Aila and Mahleya. I use to babysit a little girl named Braiden and another little girl named Tayloe.

My daughter's name is Piper....oldest son is Treyton and Bryce is pretty common but it is what we named our youngest.
