I work in a LTC facility. We are on call for a whole week. We still have to work our regular shift and if someone calls in and they can't find someone to cover, we end up pulling a double. We on get paid for 4 extra hours on our paycheck for being on call all week. This seems wrong on so many levels.

I work in a LTC facility on day shift. On another shift there was a nurse that was upbeat, chatty and laughed a lot. Well apparently she got on another nurses nerves so the other nurse took it upon herself to pour some liquid medicine, I can't remember what it was, into that nurses tea!!! TO CALM HER DOWN!! That nurse didn't find out til the next night because one of the cna's heard her talking about it. Thank goodness she had no ill effects and made it home safe. The other nurse got fired after that.

At the LTC facility where I work, we are not smoke free. Thank goodness because I am a smoker. Our patients are also allowed to smoke also. They have to have staff with them. We keep their cigarettes locked up in the med cart and thier lighters. We only have a few smokers. It just seems like on all of our breaks, we have to take the patients outside too, and this doesn't feel like much of a break when we have to do that. All in all, our smoking policy works out pretty good.

We have only a couple of residents that smoke. We have no set time though, we take them out when they want to go if we are not tied up. We keep all of their smokes locked up in the med cart. If their family wants to take them outside we let them.

Sadly, our management did not even mention nurses week. All of us nurses are baffled. We usually get some token of appreciation. This year it was nothing. I don't understand what happened.

We do not always get a lunch break and at times a bathroom break....

I think most of them test for prescription drugs as well as illegal drugs. Where I work if you are on prescriptions you have to show them the prescription. We had a nurse interview one time and get a drug test and it turned out positive for methamphetamines. Turns out her prescriction diet pill showed up as this on the drug test. Just show them your script...Good Luck with NCLEX:)

My advice as a new grad is to start on the night shift. There is more time to get the hang of the paperwork and get a routine. I started on nights and when I switched to days it was not as stressful. As far as the weekend thing goes, it depends on the company.

I got mirena about 7 months ago. My doc said if I wanted another child before the five years when it has to be removed I could have it removed at any time. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

I once charted hell protectors in place!!! instead of heel protectors. Yesterday I had to call the hospital ask for speech pathology and said peech spathology instead. The hospital operator and myself had a good laugh about that one. Also I was on hold with a doctors office today and when the nurse answered the phone I said "north wing this is Lisa how may I help you? like the phone had rang......long day

I totally agree with you. I started out as a cna and then went to nursing school. So many hard-working cnas don't get the appreciation they deserve. I feel cnas are the backbone of the nursing staff. Thanks for all of the hard work you do.

My husband was hanging out one night with his best friend Gary and a few other friends. When my husband go home he said Gary kept playing one certian song over and over on the cd player and he kept saying "I want this played at my funeral" Well the very next night Gary died in a car wreck. When they played that song at the funeral I burst into tears. The song was by My Dying Bride and was called For my fallen angel.

I work in LTC and our problem is just the opposite. We have a low census so we can't hire anyone. They are also cutting hours for the department heads and office staff.

I work in LTC. I had this one lady who could be so mean at times. As time went on she began to like me. Shen never called me by the right name though. She always called me Cahterine. I eventually started answering to this.:chuckle When I was pregnant, all she could talk about was holding my baby. She told me not to work too hard or bend and lift to much, and that I should'n be at work. After I had my baby, I brought him to see her and the biggest smile lit up her face. Sadly she died a week later. I brought the baby by to see her and at the very moment I got there, the hopital called and said she didn't make it. She had coded earlier in the day. I cried like a baby. Losing her felt like losing a blood relative I had known my whole life.

That doesn't seem right. Where I work we get time and a half for any overtime.
