Actually, here in CT Sophia has been VERY popular for the last couple of years. I keep joking that the kindergardens will be full of them in 5 years!

Sophia was in the list of top ten girls names last time the Social Security office released it.

There was a tragic news story here is Atlanta about a murder. The suspects name is Divineking. His brothers names are Justice, and Supreme.

When I was pregnant we bought a baby book and decided to let chance have a run and randomly picked a name from the book with our eyes closed. Would you beleive we landed on "dingbat"- this name was in the baby book. Well, we settled for Dillon Donald Prochnicki but his wicked uncles call him d*ldo and unfortunately it's stuck.

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

Here's a good one that just got discharged the other day: "Lochia". Yes, we know what it is, and this woman who is American named her kid after the lady partsl discharge after birth.

I didn't read the whole thread but we have had a mother name her baby Meconium she said it sounded French. And the usual Happy Rainbow, Stormy Dawn, Full Moon, LaDinette, etc... We have a fun time with the names!

I have been reading some of the posts and had to add my daughters name and a few others...

My daughter is Riley Pearl

My friends daughter is Jordan Noel

Another friends daughter is Delaney Grace, and son is Ethan Shay

I always hated my name growing up because there were no other Molly's but now it is popular...my brother too, no Brandon's when we were kids now they are everywhere.:D

My mother was named Perpetua, but she was always called Pearl. I don't think she would have been offended when I named a lttle silver grey tabby kitten "Pearl"! :)

No offense but sometimes when I hear weird names I wonder how educated these people are that name their kids these names. Of course, I'm not talking about ALL weird names but some of them almost seem obvious. An old boyfriend of mine....his mom was a RN said that she knew of a lady that had a baby girl in the hospital where she worked and named her "Female" (pronouced it "Fa Molly". Someone said that she saw the birthcertificate and it said "female" for the sex and the mother put "Female" for the name.....

My mother use to work in community healthcare... there were a few vietnamese familes w/interesting names...

Brothers: Hip, Hi, Ho

Sisters: Cathy, Kathi *i swear it*

but my fave: Phouc Van Ngueyen *pronounced like that ugly four letter word beginning w/an F, the last name sounds like "when".

My mom taught a kid with the name Phouc, and his middle name was pronounded like "you" He sat very near Jesus, NOT pronounced Hey-sues. She also taught (my favorite) Auqanet.

My family (yes, we are Southern) has handed down some real doozies. I have twin aunts named Betty Jean and Letty Dean; one of their sisters is married to Uncle Tink. My mother had a 2nd cousin or somebody named Mary Jane Mitty el Thritty- not sure of the spelling on that one. I felt sorriest, though, for Uncle Lump.

My gyn was Dr. Clapp, my mother's was Dr. Swindle, and my preacher was Dr. Lust. My best friend's OB was Dr. Barren. There is a urologist in her hospital named Dr. Chop. My ex worked with a contractor named Dick Small , and his mother(Jill) has a twin brother named Jack. In high school I had a good friend named Eve, who dated Adam. I remember when an MA I worked with was looking for a chart, and referred to it with the pt's last name- it came out, "Has anyone seen Maboob?" I once had a beautiful little girl pt named Jezebel- honestly! How do people do this to their kids?

and rhiannon.. (ya know, Fleetwood Mac!)

I LOVE the name Rhiannon--but then, I am a Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks freak...

Did meet someone in the mid'70s who named his kid "Apple" (after the Beatles' last record label...)

Sylvester Stallone's first son's name is Sage Moonblood Stallone.

Actually, Sage was a pretty common boy's name for a while there in the late '60s, early '70s.

My cousin had a husband and wife team of teachers when she was in high school in the early '60s---I swear, I am not making this up--husband's name was Harry; wife's name was Ima. Their last name? Butts.

My sister's GI doctor was out of town when she became ill. She had to see his associate Dr. Butt. My mom knew a lady whose name (maiden name) was Mable Sable. When I worked in Baltimore we had an Ob/Gyn group w/ three doctors Popkin, Matesic, and Stern- we abbreviated this on the board as PMS. So a person could be in labour and still have PMS.
