MJC 2018 Spring application

Published

IM applying Spring 2018 for the MJC ADN program. Who else is applying?

Gio93, so what I ended up doing this week was going in for a walk-in appointment with Vie Champa, who is one of the two designated allied health counselors at MJC. She actually went through my entire application with me and made sure I filled it out completely correct. I can tell you that for criterion 2A-D you only need to worry about putting the course ID exactly as it appears on your transcript. For example, I took my anatomy and physiology at a college in Oregon, which is on the quarter system. So I entered mine as "BIO231, BIO232, and BIO233"... then I listed the school I took them at and chose "ANAT 125" as the MJC course equivalency. Does that make sense?

Thank you, Ashpicard1! :-)

drewseph92, did they say when we will be hearing back about supporting documentation? Sometime in June?

I was told 6/5 is when supporting docs will be requested.

Yes, I was told the same thing as MissMoTheMrs, we should be hearing about supporting docs on either Monday 6/4 or Tuesday 6/5. And then sometime in the middle of July we'll find out if we've been selected either for the fall or the spring semester.... I reeeeally hope I get fall!! Haha. But I would be grateful to get in either one of course :-)

Thank you drewseph92, that's extremely helpful. Will probably stop by tomorrow to have my application looked at so thanks for that tip!

No problem, Gio! Good luck to you!

Do you have to have an appointment to meet with the nursing counselors to go over your application or do they accept walk-ins? Also, where are the nursing counselors located ?

Actually no, none of the counselors do appointments over the summer. You have to do a walk-in appointment. The two allied health counselors (Marcos Garcia and Vie Champa) are located in Yosemite Hall on West Campus. I do know that both of them are working fewer days and hours over the summer, so you'll want to call the counseling office ahead of time and make sure one of them is working that day. The receptionist at the counseling office told me that the earlier I came in, the better (since it's on a first-come, first-serve basis). Hope this helps!

Thank you so much!

nursingstudent09093 I called earlier last week to schedule an appointment and was told there were no appointments for summer, that they only did walk-ins for summer. So I showed up Thursday at 3 pm and the lady at the front desk told me that Marcos was all booked with appointments for the rest of the afternoon and wouldn't be able to see me (I would have to see a regular counselor)... I explained to her that I was under the impression that none of the AH counselors were doing appointments for summer so how could he be booked? She said that you have to contact the counselors through email to schedule an appointment with them for summer. So I guess you can in fact book an appointment with an allied health counselor but only if you contact them through email first.

Again, this is what the lady at the front desk of the counseling area told me. Not 100% sure if this info is true but it's worth a shot. She (receptionist lady) also mentioned that Vie Champa was out for the ENTIRE summer which I knew was complete bs because drewseph92 mentioned he had seen her last week. I called her out on it and said that I knew of someone who had met with her and she looked at her computer and was like "oh yeah, she's only here once next week". So I would take all of this with a grain of salt. Best of luck!

Hello, I believe people are getting confused on the two different counselors available at MjC. Marcos and Vi are regular counselors who have partnered up with the nursing department to help with the GE and general questions for the application. The nursing department is not holding appointments since it is summer. So any specific details and questions about nursing school such as: getting upper level coursework in Lieu of lower level coursework, etc. needs to be discussed with the nursing program. I hope this helps!
