MJC 2019 application period

Published

Hey all,

While looking at information for the Modesto Junior College RN program I came across an awesome thread on here for the 2018 application period. It was great to read through and see how much they motivated each other. It gives us an opportunity to stress together and bond while waiting to see if we get in. I am hoping to make a successful thread for those of us ready to apply in May.

Best of luck to all

Hi, can somebody so graciously help me? I fell off the wagon on my application and am SCRAMBLING to get all the supporting documentation.

On the application it says I need Official transcripts for all my schools...including Columbia...but then it says if we took classes at Columbia we do not have to include official transcripts...should I still include those Transcripts or no?

Also it asks for Official TEAS score? Can I send it online or does it all have to be in the one packet I submit? Cause I can print my scores but they won’t be official.

thanks guys!!

Also I had 73 points...I’m on the lower end of the spectrum. I will probably take language classes and retake the TEAS to raise my score the next go around ?.

They don't want the transcripts! I ordered them and they did not want them lol. If you took the TEAS at MJC they automatically get a copy so you do not have to order those either! ?

where did you take your teas? if you took your teas at MJC you don't have to turn them in and you don't need to turn your transcripts in for Mjc or Columbia, Are you applying for the nursing program at Mjc or the satellite program in Columbia? also just so you don't get the wrong information I would call donna just incase. she's always kind and willing to respond to all your questions. The number you can reach her at is...(209) 575-6362

They do want all the other schools transcripts though right? I only took one class at Columbia.

I took the TEAS at Stanislaus...so I would have to order them. But idk if electronic is okay? Do they want ALL the documentation in one packet? I would have to drop mine off in person.

I know I need to call but I just got back from vacation and my work hours are during the times to call ? and I have nobody to switch or cover my shifts with to do all this. ???

sorry for asking so many questions. I’m just so freaked because I’m so nervous I think I’m overlooking the instructions. I just want to be crystal clear cause I’ll be so mad at myself if I mess up on something so simple as submitting documentation ?

EVERYTHING needs to be in the same packet. You don't need to include Columbia if it is for a class outside of the prerequisites or anything you are using to claim points. I spoke with Donna about this last week. I took classes at Stan towards my BA in Kinesiology last semester and she told me I didn't need to provide them.

The TEAS scores must be submitted electronically through the ATI website. A printout won't do. Hope this helps!

Just like half court said. You don’t need to provide hard copies of your transcripts. However, I was under the impression that any other school transcripts (if there’s classes you’re counting from those schools) need to be on file at MJC. This morning when Marcos was going over my paperwork he made a comment about it. Where it says official transcript as supporting documentation he said I was ok because they were already on file.

For your TEAS you can electronically transfer them through the ATI website for $27. I did this last night and confirmed with Kendis this morning that they were received. I really hope this helps. Best of luck in getting it all together and submitting it.

My recommendation if you’re nervous is to go in first thing in the morning and have Marcos go over it with you. You’ll have to take a little time off work to submit everything anyways.

Here's the new MSPAR for for fall 2020/spring 2021. Application process will now be Feb 2020.

https://www.mjc.edu/instruction/alliedhealth/adnprogram/documents/updates/06012019_mspar.pdf

the top 80 will be admitted pointswise, 20 will be in the lottery (as long as you have a minimum of 60 points) for fall 2020 and beyond. Some of you may benefit from this, others won't. From my understanding, it's more competitive because only the top 80 people in points will get accepted and not 100, which means the average points per person will be up. Here's my point of view on this... you don't have at least 78-80 points(based off of the new MSPAR), you probably won't be selected because you are competing with MORE people w/ LIMITED slots on points alone. Don't rely on the lottery because they are only taking 20 out of the 500+ applicants.

Interesting, my score would move up by 4 points from a 77 to an 81 on the new MSPAR.

Glad to be part of this community! I am a first-generation college student and I am using that for the Special Circumstances Documentation. Is anyone else here first-generation college student? Just curious to see how many are new to his whole college thing.

I am. Although, my mom is also now a student at MJC and will graduate next spring!! So, maybe not? Lol

Those who submitted the packet in person, did you put it in like a manila envelope or like with a paper clip? And I don't need postage stamps or nothing like Delta or Merced did right?

i've spoken to marcos and the board members who's in charge of the MSPAR(i asked this question in my nursing 115 class).

Special circumstances and the language requirement for the MSPAR

They aren't super strict and thorough on the language requirement, as long as the person you put who vouched for you can confirm that you are a competent or native speaker of that language. For the most part they don't really confirm it. Also, it doesn't have to be spanish, but other languages as well. That or if you've taken sign language or foreign language courses witin the required criteria, get your transcript ready.

For special circumstances, if you can provide a paycheck stub on the semester you took your prereqs OR an employer who can verify your employment tha'ts good enough. If you are doing the FIRST-GENERATION college student, as long as you write one or two paragraphs explaining your circumstances and your parent's education, they should accept it. For example, if you claimed that your parents are immigrants w/o higher education in the USA, that's generally good enough.

They do a random verification if they suspect any fabrication or suspicious/false paperwork. (for example, certain paperwork doesn't match).

Grounds for disqualification is if you put your teas and science gpa doesn't match your MJC transcript or you didn't follow directions on time when it comes to sending in paperwork. So it's really difficult to get your application disqualified.

a friend of mine just stapled it and turned it in in the glacier hall building, and they accepted it. Nothing fancy, just turn in relevant paperwork.
