Microbiology - Summer 2012

Published

I am starting an 8-week Microbiology class on May 21st. Is anyone else taking Micro this summer? I thought it would be good to start a thread for us to check in occasionally throughout the summer. It might help us stay motivated! :) I have a couple weeks to go before the class starts, but I did buy my books already and am ready to go!

Microbiology was a very interesting class I loved it. Micro to me was easier than physiology. Physiology was my favorite class this semester. Now chemistry was the hardest class for me this semester. I barely got an A. 91% but an A is an A right LOL. I do not recommend taking microbiology, physiology, and chemistry together. I received all A's but boy was it hard. It caused a lot of sleepless nights. But it is worth it to not have to worry about them this fall while in nursing school.

Starting Micro 5/17...Have been trying to learn some things on my own.I still can not pull it all together so I am hoping the teacher can break it down into easier terms.I am going to Excelsior..LPN to RN program..I have also found Flashcardexchange.com to be a helpful site but still havent grabbed the concept yet..

Check out YouTube it is always helpful in explaining concepts! There are a ton of help there, good luck!!

..it's only been 4 days since the Spring semester ended for me and I'm bored out of my mind

Ha!! I feel the same way! Seriously, bored, I've read 2 books, caught up on tv (thank you Netflix!), and that's it, I am just wallowing in my boredom! I think my obsessive behaviors have migrated into my education! Lol :jester:

I took Micro during a 4 week (intense!) Winter session in December. I had always dreaded taking it because nothing about it interested me at all. OMG! Loved this class. Not sure if was due to an awesome lecture professor with an outstanding lab instructor or the interesting material or a mix of both but I actually LIKED going to class. Walked out with an A.

I start a 12 week Microbiology course next Monday. I am going to try the Edukan online course (virtual lab) - I have no idea how it will be, but I have read positive posts/reviews about this particular course and the professor who is teaching it. I've never taken an online course before (and haven't taken any courses in ten years or so), so it should be interesting to say the least! I've been thinking about going back to school for nursing for a number of years now (I am a physical therapist), and I am finally going to give it a go. Good luck to everyone!

TODAY was my first day of class. It was awesome! We prepared agar for out petrie dishes. It's a 12 week hybrid class, meaning all lectures and exams are online and we show up for lab once a week. I absolutely love the format. Great professor. The lab manual was only $4.50 and I paid 1.00 for my textbook! I'm in love... Lol

So how is your class going? Im going to take Micro in 3 1/2 weeks Summer 1 which could be June the 4th 2012 along with my first semester of the LVN program. So that way i can go straight into RN after LVN graduation and not have to wait a whole other year to start RN. Its the last class i need for RN program. I am nervous about it but i love science so maybe that will help.

I start this class tomorrow night and am baffled at how quickly the last 2 weeks flew by! I'm hoping the next 8 weeks will go by just as fast, lol. Good luck to everyone starting the class this summer! I will definitely check in again tomorrow to let you know my initial thoughts on the class.

Ok, so I'm going on day #3 of this class now, and it's going well so far. I'm a little stressed because I've been running around constantly from work to school to the gym, etc. and I've barely been home the last couple days. Hopefully I'll fall into the routine soon and these 8 weeks will go by fast. The content is really interesting and my teacher seems really great. It's still a little early to tell, but I think it's going to be a great class!

We worked with E.coli yesterday. It was Awesome.

I just started Micro yesterday. This is a 10 week class from 10am-3pm twice a week and so far I believe this will be a great class. My instructor is very laid back and easy going which is already a plus and really just wants our active participation in the class, that's not too much to ask right?Yesterday we discussed the history of micro and didn't even have to stay the entire time she allowed us to leave early! Ive already started studying though and based on some info about the class that ive received from other people, it looks like flashcards are the best way to memorize things, ill do my best to update whats going on in class from time to time. Good Luck Everyone!
