Microbiology study group spring 2009

Published

Just wanted to Start a study group for spring semester .I thought it will also be fun to give pop questions for us to make up from our classes and answer to help us learn more. Hope to hear from u guys

We have just completed one full week and have covered:

History of Microbiology

Golden age of microbiology

4 Major groups of Microorganisms

Differences betweek Eukaryotes and Prokaryotes

I am off from work and school and I will be trying to review the material and listen to the lecture that I tape at least 2 times. The first exam isn't until Feb but it is 100 questions!

Specializes in ER/Acute Care.
I'm in the same boat as you Bethany... tackling both micro and Physiology this semester.

Is anyone else using Microbiology w/ Diseases by Taxonomy Bauman 2nd Ed.? It was $439 for the texts for just these two classes!

I'm using that book. I paid $30 for the 1st edition. I spoke with my prof, and she said I will do fine with the older edition of the text.

Count me in for the study group too.

although im not taking microbio in the spring, but i am planning taking it during the summer. therefore i want to go ahead and join this group so i can learn some materials ahead of times. If possible, sometimes post the topics that you have gone over in class and write a brief summary of it. This will not only help me, but it will also help you; in a sense that you have learned and understand these materials clearly inorder to write this summary from your own words. =]

It's great when they allow that Julie! We had 450 students in the four anatomy classes here last semester that were vying for one of only 28 open seats offered in Micro this semester, so I don't want to do anything that might jeopardize my success in the class.

Our text for the anatomy class was a brand new offering that had not even been printed yet... so, it was unavailable anywhere else... but one of the four teachers thought the $268 price tag was robbery, and so instructed his students to buy any $10 text that they could find and he would teach from it. THAT is going above and beyond for your students.

dont feel that bad bluemalibu i had to pay 456 for my micro and physio class books last week and come to find out both my prof. said it didnt matter what edition it is. im using microbiology principles and explorations

...hopefully your bookstore has a grace period for refunds and you can grab an older edition cheap! (Ours has a 10 day policy, to allow for canceled classes due to low census)

yea i already went to the bookstore and they dont give refunds only if you drop the class and show prove of it, so thats just my luck. thats ok im dealing with it.

Is anyone else considering purchasing transcription software (Dragon Naturally Speaking) to convert your lecture recordings into print?

What is your experiences with the software? I suspect that it will require quite a bit of editing due to the terminology used, but I would think that it will still save days of effort in manually transcribing the classes.

Sorry Kimberly... just keep reminding yourself that you're worth it!

Specializes in ICU.

Count me in for the study group if it's not too late! We are using the Funke, Case, Tortora's Intro to Microbiology textbook and currently on chapter 3, which covers the different types of microscopes. I've only had 1 lab so far that mainly just covered your typically first day of class kind of stuff.

This is my first time joining a study group on this site. How does this work?

My email: [email protected]

I'd like to join. How does it work?

Are we doing this via posting here, or email??? My class and lab starts 2 nite.
