  1. I got a 98 on my first test 122/125 !!! yeahh..... now next wk we have a lab quiz and lab prac on thurs. So I will be studying once again for hours.......... I studied about 10 hours in 7 days for the lecture test. congrats to all of us!
  2. Ok all. I don't understand what exactly this teas test is for? At our college, once you're in a starting date for nursing clinicals, you're in. I dont think it affects you in any way where I am at, but for you others, what are your colleges doing with these tests/scores? Just curious.
  3. This is scary, and I don't get some of it. People don't stop needing medical care and being sick.....
  4. My heart goes out to her. I am familiar with those autoimmune diseases. I am lucky in the sense that mine was considered an acute condition, which unfortunately took two years for full recovery. I have received clearances from my neuro and other doctors.
  5. tlfleuter, someone asked the prof this in lab. Your gram positive would then be red, and your gram neg would be purple. However she said it is never done it this order. she said it has always been the violet first, and then safranin and that is the way it will always be done in a lab.
  6. Hi all - I am a nursing student, finishing my last pre req this spring. I should have graduated by now, but back in feb 2006, I came down with guillain barre syndrome. for those that dont know what this is, it happens after an illness, sometimes a vaccine, your immune system goes haywire and attacks peripheral nerves. I ended up in the hospital for two weeks, including icu, as the breathing nerves are not spared. I dodged the ventilator though, as my right side was a little stronger than the left. Anyway, I cannot have a flu shot, as a nurse. And I am nervous as hell about any vaccine now. Is there anyone else out there in the same boat?
  7. If your bad years were for some of the classes required for nursing, you can re-take them and get the better grade.
  8. Wow our first lecture quiz isn't until 2/24, which scares me. That is 5 weeks of info! We do have a small quiz in lab on 2/10, which I am not worried about. It seems pretty straightforward.
  9. Our school has the smelly cats, and cow's eye balls..... I dont know how I would react to a 3-4 year old cadaver smell either. I would probably be skipping dinner those days until I got used to it.
  10. We are really starting to pick up the pace now. We did acid fast staining technique in the lab yesterday. and we have gone over prokaryotes in lecture, chemistry, history of, some math calculations and talked about some unusual bacteria that don't fit in with the norms such as mycoplasma, etc.
  11. my college requires, che 103, a&p 1 and 2, bio 127 which is micro, sociology, life span development, probs and stats, math for healthcare professionals, nutrition, as well as the general education requirements which includes two of the arts ( i took music and some stupid drawling class) 2 humanities. this is for the bsn program.
  12. we are two lectures, and two labs into it now. we have done golden age, important contributors, ie., lister, etc, we have gone over chemical makeup of cells, which totally sucks b/c I had a&p and chem so long ago, i need to brush up. (i took a two year LOA due to a rare, severe illness), the makeup of dna and rna, sugars, lipids and proteins. In the lab we have done simple stain and negative stain. for the negative stain, we brushed our teeth and smeared the slide w/it and got to observe bacillus subtillis and staphylococcus epidermidis. I enjoy lab immensely, but it always seems so rushed, b/c we have an hour and 15 min, and there is a class before and after this lab so you can't get there early to go over stuff. I guess I will have to get in on a weekend before the lab practical, which isn't until the first week of may anyway. There are only two lab practicals, and unknown research paper, and a food from home experiment/paper.
  13. LOL I've come across these people in my pre-req classes too. Guess what chances are these are the ones who won't make it. And you are right, it's very rude. We've had gum snappers, talkers, txt'rs, cheaters. Each prof has their own way of handling this. I've seen some go into a 15 minute rampage, while others let the classmates sitting nearby tell the offender off. Some of these classes have 70 students or more in them, so I can see why some profs flip out.
  14. Mmmkay, last night first lab/lecture. We went over the compound microscope features/parts, looked at the three basic forms of bacteria, did a wet mount slide with some protozoa moving in it to differentiate between true motility and brownian movement. Then we had lecture and started talking about the important scientist that contributed to microbiology studies, leueewenhoek who picked his teeth scum (ewww) and saw animalcules, pasteur and his contributions etc etc. I was disappointed to find there are only two lab practicals the whole semester- I actually enjoy that kind of test. instead there are research papers and an 'unknown' which we are given an unknown specimen and have to identify it using experiments over the course of a few weeks. However the professor seems no nonsense and got right down to business which I like. she didnt take an hour to read the honor philosophy and common sense things.
  15. Are we doing this via posting here, or email??? My class and lab starts 2 nite.
