Thanks so much for all the support, ladies.
She says that it's plaigarism, even though I 'cited' all my references.
Oh, her latest...... we have to do group projects and she will penalize each member of the group if some members aren't doing their parts!!!
I am truly considering dropping, but then, why would I go thru this all over again
because she is the Only instructor at the local community college that I attend.
I hope you guys have a better time of it than this:)
Just took my first Microbiology exam #1 earlier today (Tues morning 17th) and am finally back at home after midnight off of work - it's been a long tiring dayI think I did alright on it probably mid 80's percent - one of the harder exams I've had to take and the first one is usually the easiest. Will have to stay on top of this. My study tactics include downloading the instructor's powerpoint slides and reviewing them, plus he gives us handouts which I make notes of his lectures in the margins, he doesn't require a textbook but I got one anyway off of Amazon.com and read the pertinent chapters as we cover them. I also answer questions in an MS word file that I print out for reviewing. I'm glad I've already got basic BIO and both A&P's out of the way - can't imagine taking this class concurrently with either of those
Actually ended up getting a 93 percent on Exam #1. Studying now for exam #2 which I believe will be on March 12. Got a 25 of 25 on a paper that we had to submit on the day of the exam. I have three more papers to write, each one due the day of an exam. So far I'm on track to get an A in this class, if I can just keep it up.
Ok guys, I need help with a micro question. I have searched and read the book/google and I am not sure of the answer. Here is the question:
After contact with a patient’s spinal fluid, a lab technician developed fever, nausea, and purple lesions on her neck and extremities . A throat culture grew gram-negtive diplococci. What is the genus of the bacteria?
I think that it may be Rickettsia but I am not sure. Any help would be appreciated.
A woman complaining of lower abdominal pain with a temperature of 39C gave birth soon after to a stillborn baby. Blood cultures from the infant revealed gram-positive rods. The woman had a history of eating unheated hot dogs during her pregnancy. Which organism is most likely involved?
The organism that is most likely involved is Listeria monocytogenes.
Thanks

Neisseria meningitidis,
Meningococcal disease manifests most commonly as meningitis and/or bacteremia, although pneumonia and septic arthritis are occasionally seen. Gram stain showing gram-negative diplococci Symptoms of meningitis (infection of the membrane covering the brain and spinal cord) typically include the sudden onset of high fever and headache. Nausea, vomiting, and mental confusion are often present, with a stiff neck and petechial rash often seen later in the disease. Meningococcemia (infection of the blood) typically presents with the abrupt onset of fever, chills, malaise, prostration, and rash (urticarial, maculopapular, purpuric (purple lesions), or petechial). Fulminant cases present with purpura, disseminated intravascular coagulation, shock, or coma.
