Just wanted to Start a study group for spring semester .I thought it will also be fun to give pop questions for us to make up from our classes and answer to help us learn more. Hope to hear from u guys
I'm having my second micro exam on Feb 26, it's on microbial control & microbial metabolism. What key info should I concentrate on? I want to join this grp as well.Good luck to all those who are taking their exams.
I just finished taking my second exam on microbial metabolism! Things you should concentrate on vary from instructor to instructor. First understand how red-ox reactions work. I also strongly recommend knowing how much ATP can be produced (including reducing power) from glycolysis, fermentation, Krebs Cycle, and respiration. Understand photophosphorylation. Know the functions of co-enzymes. Know the differences between aerobic and anaerobic organisms & heterotrophs and autotrophs. Know what electron acceptors are used in anaerobic respiration. Know what compounds chemolithotrophs use for energy sources. Hope this is slightly helpful to you!
I just finished my second micro exam tonight- 100 questions in the mode of NCLEX ie some of the questions are not st raight memorization. One has to apply the knowledge...arggghhhh!! The test was microbial growth, microbial control, basic chemistry etc. The last chapter on microbial control was a bear! So much info regarding aldehydes, halogens, Phenolics, Bisphenols, Biguanides...what kills what, what is most, least resistant, what kills endospores, pasteurization, autoclave, bacterial growth curve, generation time, etc. My brain is fried today. I think that I got a high B but I am really hoping that I scrape by an 'A'.
Now, tomorrow, I get my AP2 quiz and AP2 lab results back, lecture tomorrow and probably another quiz on Thursday. I have no life...
Hehehe! Sounds JUST like the way my instructor formulates his tests. You can't just memorize the material, you have to be able to apply it to other things. We've had 2 exams so far and I've gotten 88% both times. I really wished I could get an A, but I also feel good b/c the class average on the first test was about 76% (not sure about the 2nd, just took it this past weekend)
Good luck with the rest of micro and A&P! My instructor told the class the first day that if any of us where enrolled in anatomy as well that we needed to drop one or the other. He felt that each was a difficult class that covers too much material to really devote yourself to both.
On my first micro, I got a 95. So far in AP2, I have gotten a 95, 95 on first 2 quizzes and 88 on exam. I will be getting the quiz back on the heart tomorrow- quizes are on 1 area and are 20 questions each week. Exams are 50 questions and are on the preceeding 3 subjects. I am also taking Nutrition but on line.
Taking AP2 and Micro is doable. It requires one to be organized, driven and extremely motivated and yes, I do study 5-6 days out of the week, listen to recorded lectures at work every other day for about 2 hours and take a half of vacation day when I have a micro test so that I can leave work at noon to go to library to study.
If a person just wants to 'pass' or just get by, I would not reccommend taking the two.
Good luck and I do hope that you get that A.
I, too, am taking Micro and APII.
I do not want to just 'pass' but I am not doing so well with all the studying for
both classes. And, to top it off, I have the instructor from hell!! She deducts 50 points if you use the web for resources, she never told us we couldn't.
She's been gone for the last 2 weeks and our second test(I failed the first one) is supposed to be next Tuesday over Chapters 5-9 but, she only started chptr
5 today!!!
I can't drop; too much time and money and I don't want to have to go through
this hell again.
Can anybody help me find a way to prepare for this class? I am making flashcards, reading, listening to the lecture, but it just isn't 'sticking.'
Thanks for any help.
She deducts 50 points if you use the web for resources, she never told us we couldn't.
What exactly does that mean? I too had the teacher from Hell and just made the best of it. I left class and came home and did my own class online. I youtubed all of the labs and used the textbook website. Why would she not want you to use these tools? How would she know?
AFrankin, try coming up with little pneumonics to remember things. it seems that you are doing everything that you could. Those are certainly the things that I am doing.
Perhaps, u can go to her and ask her for some tips to be more sucessful in her class. i would also challenge her on the 50pt deduction if it was not in her syllabus or if she had not mentioned it.
btw, I got 95 on my AP2 quiz but lab won't be graded until after Spring break because, 'he has too many classes'. He definitely needs an assistant.
Good luck
Well we had our 1st Micro test today. I can't believe that my entire midterm grade is going to be based on 1 test and 2 lab quizzes! My professor has been all over the place. He is completely scatter brained and goes off on tangents during lecture that have nothing to do with Microbiology. The only positive is that our "review session" for our tests are a godsend. He holds the test in his hand and reads the questions directly from it. I recorded the session and am hoping I did good on the test. I'm hoping for an A, but thinking I'll get a high B. *Keeping my fingers crosses*!!

Is it because they use anaerobic respiration?
