Microbiology - Fall 2008

Published

Hi ya'll! Anybody taking Micro this coming fall semester and want to form a study group? I did this for A&P I and II and it helped tremendously! I'm taking it along with Chem 1151 (Survey of Chem). Thanks!

Katie you Aced some of the most difficult sciences already and your past tells me you'll do it again!!!:specs:

Thank you so much, that really means a lot!!! I feel so overwhelmed this semester that it's hard to have confidence but with support like yours I know I can do it!:heartbeat

I am currently enrolled for Micro for the fall..I would love to be apart of this study group.

Specializes in MICU - CCRN, IR, Vascular Surgery.

Well so far it seems like I have a really cool teacher. She really knows her stuff and really wants us to learn and she's really nice. I think I got pretty lucky there. But the bookstore hasn't gotten our books in yet so we're kind of waiting around to see what happens with that. Kinda hard to do a lot with no book and no lab book! On the first day of lab though we got to all culture anything we wanted to. I picked my wedding rings since so many hospitals won't allow rings due to them possibly passing infections and such. It should be interesting!

So how exactly does the online study group work? My class doesn't start. until the end of September but I want to get started sooner. So far I've gone through and read the first chapter, which covered the fundamentals: history/pioneers, basic types of microorganisms, and developments.

I've had 2 lectures and 2 labs this week. Fairly mellow stuff thus far. I got to look at pond water through the microscope last night and it was cool to see the "wee animalcules" swimming about on my slide. I'm also taking a history class and intermediate algebra (which is frustrating the heck out of me thus far). How are the other classes going?

HELLO everyone, is anyone here currently using this text: Microbiology: An Introduction, 9th edition by Tortua/Funke/Case?

I am presently trying to find a podcast that closely resembles the outline of this text.

All the best with Micro.

Is anybody else incubating their own bacteria and making their own slides? It's so cool! Although it is a bit nerve-wracking since I'm brand new to the world of germs and I'm working with things like E. coli and Staph. epi! My hands are RAW because I've been washing them so much...all I need is to get E. coli from my micro lab.

My class still doesn't even have books or lab books. It's so frustrating! And then we don't have class next week because of Labor day (no classes Mon or Tues!). I want to study, but I have nothing to study from!

We haven't done our own slides but yesterday we did do some cultures. I too am working with E.Coli and Staph to name a few but I put on disposbale gloves. I also got to swab $1 bill that I had in my wallet. Will get to review the results on Teusday. hopefully it won't show anything too distgusting but money does go through millions of hands Yuck!!!. I lucked out that our professor seems great so far and we got all books a lab manual on the first day.

Specializes in none yet!.

Well so far so good, after a week of classes getting into the swing of things. Have been to speak to my A&PI and micro lecturers who were helpful as I was concerned that having not studied the basics for a while (like a decade) I was behind, but they were great and gave me some tips.

My psych teacher has given me great tips for multi-choice tests (the GRE was the 1st one I have ever taken) as studying for multi-choice and essay papers is pretty different!! Beginning to get the hang of the US credit system too, although 'extra credits' still confuse me! In the UK at my uni noone got above 75% on a test, and no extra credits, so mind boggling you can theoretically get over 100% in a course!

Specializes in med-surg, ltc,occupational health,.

I would like to join this study group. I started on Aug 20th and we got to look at fungi, bacteria, and staph under the microscope. it was pretty cool.

Hi!

I am taking Microbiology starting Sept. 3 and I would love to be part of an online study group!

I was in a "live" study group for A & P II w/ girls from class and it was very helpful! I plan on forming another "live" one for Micro as well!!

To the people who have started Micro already- How is it going so far????

Pghnurse37 :)
