  1. I would call SMC and ask them what they suggest. Tell them that SMC is your first choice but do they advise that you get a head start at LACC and then transfere to SMC's nursing. I'm assuming your grades during that time would have to be decent , but then again, if you have GE classes you need to finish, I suggest doing that and waiting for SMC in the Spring. I know that some nursing programs will not accept someone that "failed" a class in another nursing program. Also, I didn't think about this before but it might be a little unfair to take another students spot at LACC if you end up dropping out of the program after a semester. The best thing is to call a counselor at SMC and discuss the best case scenerio for you. I don't want to give your wrong advice. Good Luck!!!:)
  2. We were not allowed to record lectures for our prerequisites, however some professors were ok with it. In the nursing program, I was told that we could record but need to sign a disclaimer not to re-post or give copies of the lecture to anyone and that it is only for our own individual purposes.
  3. I too applied to LA County for Fall but my first choice was SMC because it a lot closer to me. I heard that LA County was good, but since I am in at SMC for this Fall, I will decline County "IF" I even get accepted that is. I haven't heard anything bad or good about LACC. I only know of a girl that applied their but hasn't even taken the entrance exam yet, so she has no info. I am sure it is good too. I would call and talk to a counselor at SMC to see where you are on the waitlist. You should try to stay in contact with them every few months. Also, if you don't end up liking where you go this Fall, maybe you can switch to SMC in the Spring, so don't take your name of their waitlist. Good luck!
  4. Hi I applied in March last year. so one semester before you did. I did get in this Fall, so I waited the usual 3 semesters that I was told by the counselor when I put in my application. It worked out best for me since I wanted to finish as many G.E. classes before starting the program. You get about a month notice to take the NLN. They send you an e-mail and you register for the date you want to take the exam. So you can either take it right away or wait until the last date(usually 30 days) availbale if you want more time to study. I took mine second to last day. You take the test on the computer so you get your results right away, which is great. They will also e-mail you about Plato roughly 3-4 months before you register for the exam. The NLN book was very helpful for me, mainly to time myself. That's the only study guide that the testing company offers. You may want to talk to one of the Nursing Counselors (they are really nice and helpful) incase they have made any changes to their procedures. Don't stress about the test, just start preparing in advance an you'll do fine.
  5. I just took the NLN exam last week. Thank god I passed!. The one thing I can tell you is practice time management especially on the Math part. They are pretty much easy questions but you have to be able to know how to calculate them instantly. If you get stuck on one, move on to the next and then come back to it. The science was basic, but has more physics than Anatomy or Physiology, which I thought was odd. My suggestion is to get the NLN review guide and practice timing yourself. Also SMC has a thing called "Plato", I found that helpful for the physics part of the exam. My friend who just started the program in Spring took both the NLN and TEAS and said that the NLN was harder, but no that much more. Good luck!!!
  6. Hi I'm on the waitlist. I applied in March 2009 and was told I would start (if I pass the NLN in April 2010) in Fall 2010, which would be a 3 semester wait list (Spring, Fall, Spring). However I just got an e-mail Friday to take the exam in November for possible Spring 2010 entrance. I heard that it was because a lot of students didn't pass the NLN. Yikes!!!
  7. I ordered it on-line. It's called Interactive Physiology 9 system suite or Anatomy, by Pearson/Benjamin Cummings. It includes Cardiovascular, Muscular, Nervous, Respiratory, urinary, Endocrine and Digestive systems along with Fluids, Electrolytes and Acid/Base balance.
  8. I got an "Interactive" DVD for my Anatomy and Physiology class. It helpd me understand the processes because it showed me how they worked, broke it all down as opposed to just reading about it and I had to participate ( the interactive part). By understanding more, I became more interested in the classes and got A's. Maybe there's an interactive Biology DVD or website.
  9. Hi Has anyone taken the NLN recently. Is it harder than the TEAS? been studying for TEAS and just found out school switched entrance exams without letting anyone know Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks
  10. good luck:)
  11. oh also check your local community college
  12. go to this site ( http://www.azdhs.gov/phs/ ) and call them and ask them where you can get the list of their approved phlebotomy training schools. i looked and couldn't find it either. maybe arizona has it on a different site than california.
  13. Hi In California there is a list of state approved Phlebotomy schools. You have to make sure they are state approved for you can get your state certification. You should check the list for Arizona or call the Department of Health Services in Arizona and ask them for the list. I just signed up for one that starts this Monday and it's Monday-Thursday for a month, then you take your state exam within 1 week of completion, then they place you in a 40 hour externship program.
  14. Hi JumpingIn How does it feel to do your first blood draw? Were you confident from the get go or were you nervous.
  15. I took Professor Hill. It was a Saturday class from 9 - 3:30 with a 45 minute lunch break. I wouldn't recommed that particular class because it's too much all in one day, then you didn't have any communication with the professor for a whole week. So if you had questions you'd have to wait. It's better to take a class that twice a week for about 2-3 hours per class. I heard that Professor Geisbauer is good. I took her for Physiology not anatomy though.
