Microbiology - Fall 2008

Published

Hi ya'll! Anybody taking Micro this coming fall semester and want to form a study group? I did this for A&P I and II and it helped tremendously! I'm taking it along with Chem 1151 (Survey of Chem). Thanks!

Yeah, I made an 89 on my last exam (should have been a 93 since two questions I missed were things we never talked about) and I was sooooo happy! Which isn't really normal for me. I'm not used to being so happy for a b+, and certainly not used to thinking in terms of just trying to pass a class!

My micro professor is horrible. He's condescending jerk who never gives anyone a straight answer and frequently tells each of us something different when we ask him the same question. Almost the entire class is failing, but he uses a huge curve to make it look alright by the end of the year. I'm a 3.9 gpa honors student and I failed the first test - I've never ever ever ever ever failed a test in my life! Then he screws up things all the time, and sees just how quiet he can talk and how small he can write on the chalkboard so that those of us in the back of the stadium seating room can't see or hear.

*clears throat* anyways. My venting is done lol.

We're working on the pathways now, which he has some weird way of writing on the board that tends to be pretty different from the book. I'm scared!

I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time in your class. That's frustrating! I know firsthand that it makes a HUGE difference who your teacher is. Can make you hate/love the class. Just hang in there. We're here for you!!!!! :icon_hug:

I'm really enjoying my class and my teacher. She really wants us to succeed, which is awesome. I just got my lecture test back and got 100%, second highest grade in the class. It's so exciting to have all that studying pay off.

Got my Micro test score from the exam I took on thursday. I did better than last time but it was still a 69.5. My grade for the class, at the half-way point is a 66.4 . So, the best I can pull out of there is a C if I work my ass off to catch up. I am not sure if a B is possible at this point. The average test score from Thursday was a 74.4. There are 37 people left in the class and there are at least 10 people doing worse than me. There are only 3 A's in the class and they are a 90.8, a 93.1 and a 93.3. The class grade average is a 74.4. Is that the norm? That seems low to me for a whole classes average.

At this point the only way to get out of retaking this class is *if* I get accepted to the Nursing program for January *AND* I get a C in this class. Then it would be ok. It'a a long shot but stranger things have happened. If that doesn't happen then I will retake this class and my developmental psych. as it's my only other low grade on my pre-req's.

If you take a science over again do you think it's best to pick a different instructor or go with the same one again? I really do like this prof. and her style. My problems are really with how I started out the semester and got behind.

If you like the prof and realize that your issues are with how you got started then if you take it over I would stick with the same prof. That way you at least know what her style is and how she tests.

Hopefully you will get accepted and get that "C" so that you don't have to retake the class. Goodluck.

Today we went over the test from Thursday and I am kicking myself on some of the dumb stuff I did. At least 4 to 5 of the answers that were wrong I actually had right the first time. This is obvious on the actual test paper but the multiple choice are graded from the scantron sheet. For the short answer I missed 4 and 2 were missed by most people because we didn't understand what she was asking for. Oh well. On the positive side she had one question revised and that earned me an extra point and a C on the test instead of a D :D. I know that still sucks but I will take the small victories where I can get them.

I am still listening to all the hearsay about admissions for January and today several people said that not as many applications as usual were submitted this round AND that they had doubled the # they were going to allow so a lot more will get accepted than would in a larger pool of people. I don't know if this really increases my chances but my fingers are crossed.

Thank ya'll for letting me vent and babble! Hugs!!

Well, we finally got the results back from our first test (on 9 chapters!!!) I somehow managed 96% :yeah::yeah::yeah:

I got top of the class with that score, and am now ready to jump up and down in celebration, but with an A&PI test on Monday, should go study!

GAH... I have screwed myself out of so many A's because of changing answers on exams I could puke. :o

Just checked the website and I made a stinking 78. BLAH!!!! Thank goodness I have been working on the extra credit project. That'll add 10 points to the test. I'm already working on the study guide for the next 5 chapters. GOT to make an A. Thats the goal!

I keep hoping she'll find a question that was bad and throw it out - bringing my grade up to an 80. Ahh.... dreams.

Wow, that's a lot of material! You must've studied hard to earn that 96%. Congratulations!!!!! :yeah: And you're taking A&P also? You're either brave or crazy. :p Good luck on your next test.

Thanks for the support!! I studied pretty hard for the test. I am taking A&PI, microbiology, intro to psychology and principles of sociology, but I don't work (I cannot on my visa), so get time to study, although I do have a two year old!

Wow, we're alot alike. I have amost-3-yr.-old twins. I am taking micro, A&P, nutrition and a speech class. All I do is study and take care of my kids, or I wouldn't be making it.

I just looked at my micro test from the other day I had a 90, but she hadn't graded our bonus questions yet. Appearantly I ended up with a 97 after she did! Yay! :D
