MCC - Nursing Students Starting 2009

U.S.A. Michigan

Hey everyone!

Thought I would start a thread where we can keep up with all the fun new and exciting things coming our way! We'll get to meet each other in a few days (May 20th)! So, how shall we identify ourselves to one another? Hum...

Anyway, look forward to meeting you all! I'm excited about the Nursing Orientation!

The course that River District offers is through the American Heart Association. But again not sure if it's 1 or 2 years. Anyone interested should call first. I know that there is some info on their website as well.

Hey all,

A little info from last year, I'm not sure that it's the same for this year, but it can't hurt to check.

Royal Oak Fire Dept did AHA Bls courses every two weeks for $40.

For your drug screen, call a place called D.O.T.S. (something like diversified occupational testing services) look under drug testing in the yellow pages...it's on Dequindre Rd. I paid about $22 for my drug screen last year.

Good luck to all with all of this busy stuff!

~Hoot~ :)

Thanks a million for the info!!

OK, when I look at the online bookstore of required texts I want to puke.

The one book is definitely one we can buy used, I wonder if anyone has the ISBN number so I can hunt it down somewhere else.

It's the 1510 class of fundamentals of nursing.

Uh..I just looked too...I am in shock at the prices! I am still waiting to see if I can get some student loans from macomb, now I need them for sure!

I was thinking that too. I sent in the appeal, just waiting to hear back. How long ago did you send yours in??

I need to go check out stethoscopes today, I am going to see what they have at the scrub store... any other suggestions would be good. Because of my hearing loss a regular (good) scope might work, but I might need the electronic one. Blah... I doubt they will have them both to try at the uniform store...

OK, so my sister calls me today and says that MCC is limiting student loans (stafford) so they will no longer give you a student loan to cover living expenses and stuff like that. They say there are private lenders for student loans to cover those types of things.

I didn't have that problem at Baker... so I didn't expect that here. With school and 4 kids, I just don't even have time in my schedule for a full time job, too.

Has anyone called about the PCT job at St. Johns?? Feel free to PM me.

Sorry about the serial posting this morning. :p

I called the week after we went to orientation and the lady was on vacation. I left a message and noone ever called me back. I called again a week ago and she was on vacation until this week. I tried to talk to someone else and the phone system never put me through. Thought maybe I am not meant to work there?

I tried calling today. I left a voicemail as well, hopefully someone can call me back soon.

I also went to Life Uniforms and tried out some stethoscopes. Did you decide on one Nell??

No...I haven't got a stethoscope yet. Have had a nurse and a doctor both tell me not to spend over $50 on one because they disappear quite often. I, too, am afraid I won't be able to hear well on one- being I think the oldest student!! There is a site called allheart.com with very good prices on them. It also sells watches, shoes, etc.

That is where I am looking... all heart. :) I heard people get them stolen, but I'm just going to be careful. I couldn't hear anything on the 89.00 Littmann they had at the scrub store. So that won't work for me.
