MCC - Nursing Students Starting 2009

Published

Hey everyone!

Thought I would start a thread where we can keep up with all the fun new and exciting things coming our way! We'll get to meet each other in a few days (May 20th)! So, how shall we identify ourselves to one another? Hum...

Anyway, look forward to meeting you all! I'm excited about the Nursing Orientation!

There was a special on there yesterday if you bought one of the more expensive stethoscopes ( one was $140) you would get a bonus student kit free ( $50 value ) and it had a CD in it with heart sounds which I thought might be helpful to a novice. This summer is flying by and I had hoped to do some reading ahead which hasn't happened! Well, I will be ready for a study group come August if anyone else is interested?

That would be helpful...

I need to get my books.

How do I find the online bookstore? I went to MCC's main site...then to student services....then to bookstore, but I'm not sure how to find this oneline site where I can get an idea of book fees. Thank you for help; I tried to be a big girl:)

Ok, never mind it was under Central Campus bookstore site. I'm a big girl:lol2:

New question: Their were 71 books on nursing fundamentals, how do I find the ones for 1510, 20,, 30 etc... 1610, 20, 30??? I tried to type in 1510...didn't work. The first fundamental book was 294.00

Well, I went today and looked at the books and ended up buying most of them at the bookstore. My nephew has a gadget that he can scan the ISBN on a book and see what it is selling for on Amazon, so I did the comparisons and for the little I would have saved on Amazon, I went ahead and took the plunge and spent $368!! I did manage to get several books used (they look new) but there aren't too many used books. There was one of the 1500 books that they did not have in stock there (one that was about $118?) and they did not have the nurse packs yet BUT a nice lady told they were just delivered and would be out soon. I can type out the list of what I got with the ISBN and price at the book store if anyone would like, so you all can shop around. Oh and in case anyone is wondering what the "Perfect Package" is that it says we need on the website and sells for $115 it is a package of 3 books wrapped together and they are Davis's Drug Guide for Nurses 11th Ed by Deglin/Vallerand which includes a CD ROM, Taber's Medical Dictionary 21st Ed and Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests with Nursing Implications 3rd Ed by Van Leewen.

I spoke to a young lady there who just completed the first 8 weeks and said its tough but do-able to get As. She said just to make sure we keep up on the reading assignments! She reccomended the Cardiology III stethoscope. She said with all the noise in lab to make sure you got a good one because its hard to hear.

Oh, and in one of those coupon books that I got in the mail last week, there was a 20% coupon for Binsons, in case anyone else is still looking for their stethoscope.

Well hope this info helps someone and if anyone would like the ISBNs on these books let me know. Several are wrapped and packaged together, so I will only open them if someone would like the ISBN.

Ouch on the price; I bought most of mine today also. Did you buy all the books including the "recommended" but not required books? I have the older edition (5th) of APA manual, so I didn't buy that one either. In addition I bought my son's books for fall quarter. Expensive day:yawn:

How much would the required books have cost... not recommended ones? I think I would wait and see on some of those, and I have 3 drug guides already from another class I took last year.

For cryin' out loud!! I just typed a long post about the books I got and somehow deleted it before posting it. Painful, since I am the slowest typist around! Well, heck, and I was just looking and there are three more required books I did not get. And I did not even get the ones for 1600!

There are not a whole lot of the used books but the ones I got look like they have never been opened.

I just looked ahead going through the books we will need for all the classes we will take over the next two years. The good and not so good news is this semester if we also include the Medical Surgical Books we need in October that cost $228 will be by far the most expensive book-wise. Oh, the Pharmacology and the Nursing Process 5th Ed by Lilley that I bought today is recommended now but required next year. I got this one today and it was wrapped with the study guide for $20.25 (so book and study guide) according to my receipt and when I just checked it on the online bookstore site, it says it is supposed to be $75 used and $90 new???? It must be scanning wrong....
