Hey everyone,
I just wanted to start a thread for people interested in the MDC nursing program for fall 2012. I think if you shared your scores (TEAS V & GPA) and what track your applying to (full-time or part-time), it will give everyone an idea of where they stand.
I will start:
I have a 3.7 GPA and an 81% on the TEAS and looking to apply for the part-time program. I have the option of taking the TEAS 2 more times which I will be doing :)
Hey I have a question for some of the current nursing students or those who might know. I applied to both the nursing pt and ft, and I'm happy to have been accepted into the PT program. I would have been happy either way and can't wait for school to start. I remember during my orientation one of the speakers stressing that there would not be any changing of a students curriculum from PT to FT or vice versa. Still I've heard students say that they allow PT students to bump up to FT after the first semester based on their grades and other factors, is there any truth to that?
Thank you I just took the TEAS this week and scored a 91.3%. My GPA based on the classes that you mentioned is a 3.6. Do you think that I have a chance of getting a seat in the Fall PT Generic at MDC? or should I take the TEAS again and hope to get a better score? What was your TEAS/GPA if you are currently a student that has been accepted to the program?
3.6 GPA in sciences is okay, but a TEAS V score of over 90 is awesome. If you don't get in on that, I'll eat my hat.
I got a 77, I did marvelously well in the sciences and in the math section, I got 95 and 94 respectively, that is most likely what got me a seat in the program. My reading and english were both below 75. I really didn't see myself being accepted, but fortunately I was.
A 77 on the TEAS V is certainly above average. It doesn't matter how you do in each section. Your total TEAS V score counts for 60% of your competitive score, and your pre-reqs count for 40%. That's it.
I remember during my orientation one of the speakers stressing that there would not be any changing of a students curriculum from PT to FT or vice versa.
I know for sure that if all is going well, you can switch from accelerated to generic. As long as you can make the courses line up, I don't see why they'd mind if you switched between PT and FT. Of course, you can get more definitive answers from the New Student Center or the dean's office.

When I first started, I found that the test taking skills were needed skills. I would get these down the best that time allows. As time goes on, test taking skills do get better so just get it down the best that you can.
Which classes have you taken so far by the way? As your skill set changes as you progress in the program.
The NurseLogic ATI is not at all what I expected. Some of these things seem like things we should be learning in school, not stuff we should already know. Besides that and Achieve, is there anything else we need completed? I feel like I'm forgetting something.
Get used to the feeling, lol. ATI tests always have a ton of stuff that will not be covered even in class!
I did wanna mention something about ATI that is really important. As you take your classes and have to do practice/proctored tests, keep a folder or something where you keep the ATI results so that you can review your weak areas during your breaks/review sessions/for NCLEX. Those result reports are super valuable, and many people don't even glance at them after taking their proctored tests. I have been going back to my ATI results and brushing up on my weak areas as I am prepping for the NCLEX and its really helpful.
The ATI books you will receive this semester are your single best tool for getting high scores and for prepping for your lecture exams. Devour 'em once you get 'em. :)
Good luck to everyone who is starting their first term this week. Just keep your eyes on the prize and you will have the big "RN" behind your name soon. 8)
This might be a little off topic here on this thread but thought any input at this point would be great.
I have been accepted to both the accelerated and generic programs at MDC and opted for the generic route and have not been able to find above cost loans or loans that are not certified through MDC.
I already have earned a Bachelor's so Pell Grants and need-based finaid is not an option for me.
Does anyone know of where I can find loans that are disbursed to me and are not factored by the COA ? Where do most student go to fund the gaps for very modest living expenses ?

Hey, Im new to the thread and I saw your post. I was accepted into the part time program at MDC. I'm extremely happy to have been accepted I didn't think I would get it in. I got a 77, I did marvelously well in the sciences and in the math section, I got 95 and 94 respectively, that is most likely what got me a seat in the program. My reading and english were both below 75. I really didn't see myself being accepted, but fortunately I was. It was my first try at the TEAS, there was definitely room for improvement. I got a 3.4 gpa sciences. So yes, I definitely think you will get in, and no i don't think you would need to retake the test in my opinion or from my experience.
