Hey everyone,
I just wanted to start a thread for people interested in the MDC nursing program for fall 2012. I think if you shared your scores (TEAS V & GPA) and what track your applying to (full-time or part-time), it will give everyone an idea of where they stand.
I will start:
I have a 3.7 GPA and an 81% on the TEAS and looking to apply for the part-time program. I have the option of taking the TEAS 2 more times which I will be doing :)
Hey guys. This is my first semester applying for fin aid at MDC. Does it usually take so long for funds to be disbursed? I keep calling them and they keep telling me my file is still being processed. Has anyone received their fin aid yet? School starts in a week! Fortunately I had a back-up way to pay for classes!! Also, would anyone mind posting a list of supplies you've bought? I don't want to forget anything when I fInally get to go shopping!! Thanks!!

off the top of my head this is the important stuff
I doubt that you'll need to buy a sphygmomanometer.
The nurse's kit at the bookstore cost about $100. You also need a white scrub top for on-site clinicals, plus a green scrub top and bottom. You should also get a cheap, simple, easy-to-clean wristwatch with a sweep second hand.
If you get an expensive stethoscope, especially in black, you're going to have to keep a careful eye on it. Those things have a tendency to walk away.
Hi guys!
I actually attended Miami Dade back in 2007 and graduated with an AA in Psychology. I am currently in my last semester at FIU and I am graduating with a Bachelors in Psychology. I was interested in the RN program at Miami Dade (the accelerated program), but by the looks of it all of your GPA's are extremely high up there. I currently have a 2.875 in FIU, but when I graduated Miami Dade I had a 3.49 GPA. I have no taken any of the natural sciences or exams currently so I'm not sure where this GPA is computed from, my AA or BA. This semester at FIU I am actually taking Human Biology BSC 2085 with a lab and Clinical Physiology for Health professions HSC 3549. Can someone give me some direction? I want to make sure I get into this program at Miami Dade, but I feel a little intimidated by all of your GPAs and scores.

Your overall GPA doesn't matter, as long as it meets the minimum (2.5, I think). Your admission is contingent upon your competitive score, in which your pre-req GPA has a weight as 40%, and your TEAS V score has a weight of 60%.
These are the science pre-reqs:
BSC2085 A&P 1
BSC2085L A&P 1 lab
BSC2086 A&P 2
BSC2086L A&P 2 lab
CHM1033 chemistry
CHM1033L chemistry lab
MCB2010 microbiology
If you do well in those classes, do okay on the TEAS V, and have no issue with the background or drug check, you are in.
From what I've seen, if you have a 3.5 in your pre-reqs and a TEAS V score in the high 70's, you should have no problem. (In fact, you'd probably have a good margin.)
