Miami Dade College (MDC) Fall 2012 Full-time/Part-time Nursing program

U.S.A. Florida

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to start a thread for people interested in the MDC nursing program for fall 2012. I think if you shared your scores (TEAS V & GPA) and what track your applying to (full-time or part-time), it will give everyone an idea of where they stand.

I will start:

I have a 3.7 GPA and an 81% on the TEAS and looking to apply for the part-time program. I have the option of taking the TEAS 2 more times which I will be doing :)

Hey Homesteaders,Check your email if you have Assessment with Professor Maury. He posted his syllabus.

havent done it yet because its not up an running at homestead campus yet im going to try and get it done this week

NOTICE:

so it appears achive is ONLY available at medical campus currently, after talking for a long time with homestead campus it appears acheive is a program that must be installed into the computer and the computers in homestead do not have them. so if you still need to do it we need to drive to medical campus to do it, they also said hat we needed a special login account to access it....anyone have any info with regards to this part????

The people at the testing center or the library will provide you with the login information when you go there.

Ugh. Yadi- thanks for the info!! Looks like I'm headed to medical next week.

Make sure to bring money to make copies of your results, bc it is not posted to your personal ati testing profile. You will need the scores for the beging of classes to prove you took the test. Good luck.

You can actually save the results in your student folder on the desktop and email them to yourself to print at home, work, etc. so you don't incur the printing/copy charges.

I've only read a few of these comments, but wow 4.0 GPA and what sounds like an entrance exam (I think someone said TEAS). I'm so happy I got accepted to MDC full-time Generic Program with a 3.45 and no entrance exam required. That was a few years ago. One thing that hasn't changed tho is the fact that new grads are having a terrible time finding their first jobs because most places don't want to hire new grads. Please don't let the nursing instructors or the advisors fool you into thinking there are a ton of jobs because nursing is in high demand. Let me clarify. Nursing is in high demand for nurses with experience, and when I say experience, I mean AT LEAST 2 years experience. It's difficult to get experience if you can't get a job. I was one of the lucky ones that got a job as a new grad in a hospital. But there were plenty of my fellow graduates that never got their first nursing job. I just want to open your eyes to this and hopefully you realize that you may not get that job you're dreaming of. You may need to work in other areas of nursing before you are able to transition to the job you want. The most important thing is keeping your skills. So if you have to work somewhere you don't want to work, take that job, at least temporarily. Also, the new grads that are willing to relocate have a better chance at getting their first job. And I know some of you will say, "I'm married or I have a mortgage, etc etc. I can't relocate". I have a friend that graduated with me that is married and has a mortgage and he took a job 4 hours away in a hospital that was willing to train him as a new grad and he worked 3 days a week (all 3 days in a row) and rented a cheap efficiency for $400 per month. He drove up there to work his 3 days while staying in that efficiency and then drove back to Miami on his day off to stay with his wife and kids. I also know of many other new grads that relocated with their immediate family... as well as many other scenarios. Just a thought. You need to be flexible in this new job market for nurses. Don't let anyone blow up your head making you think that you're getting a $10,000 sign on bonus and having your choice of what hospital to work at. Those days are long since over. Sorry to give you a reality check but I'm just being real. Good luck to all of you. If you don't get accepted, keep applying. You will get it.

They give us a printout of results right?

Once you finish each section you print out the results, it does not even have your name on it, just the results and the time you spent on that section.

Good morning guys..How long does it take to complete the achieve module? Haven't had a chance to start it.

Good morning everyone!!!

Do you have any idea of what we are going to do during the month we are not going to have clinicals? I mean do you know if during that time we just have free time or they usually make us do something else?
