Okay, so I'm still a young and spry 27.... but I all of a sudden feel very old.
The BSN program that I'm going to be attending beginning this summer had a welcome tea Friday afternoon. 40-50 out of the 60 students were there, mostly 20-21 year olds with their parents tagging along (maybe 2 other students my age or older). How embarrassing is this - I found myself more often than not talking to their parents instead of my future classmates! Great!
I was told by the instructors that this is a particularly young class, and that they have more non-trad students in the ADN program.
Anyone else in a class situation like this?
You 'kids' needn't worry :)
After all, look at me. I'm 51 and just completed my 1st year of nursing school. Yes, I'm the oldest--actually I wasn't but the year-older-than-me student dropped out. Students in my class range in age from 19-51. Mostly in their 20's and 30's...actually I think we skip the 40's altogether except for this one guy who won't tell us his age. You'll soon find that'll be the least of your worries. I'm a bit of a ham/class clown so I get a long with everyone. Of course there's that 'generation gap', especially with the teens--20's but we are all very very supportive of each other and no one looks at age at all.
Have fun with it!!!
I'll be starting nursing school at the ripe age of 37! Married with 4 kids, and one of those kids will be almost 14 - probably closer to some of my classmates age than mine!! LOL
I expect that though, because they offer 2 and 4 year degrees. I know the nursing classes at the CC I went to had a lot of people in their 20's, 30's and 40's.
My MIL graduated from nursing school at 57 - and NOT the oldest in her class!
Now now, guys... to quote my 13 year old, "You're not old mom, you're experienced!!! heehehee
Would you please have your sweet 13 year old talk to my stinker 11 year old? :chuckle He overheard me talking about this thread with my husband and he said "so, you're worried about becoming all shriveled up, mom?" Can I ground him for that? :chuckle
Good evening, guys, checking in from the "nursing home" here ... :chuckle
I'm 44 and just about all of my classes have had a mixture of 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s. The blend has been very harmonious, and at times I don't even feel like we're different ages at all. We're all striving for the same goal, crying over the same test grades and learning together!

Socially awkward...that's the phrase I was trying to think of when I was thinking of how to describe myself...thank you manna.....
It's funny, I graduated with my first degree not knowing a single person I graduated with. I go to a very large university. Now I see the same people in every class and know their names.
My shyness would only concern me if it hindered my clinical performance and it doesn't.
Best of luck to you all in your nursing education.
