Oh, Walt, you really have to be a woman to understand. Ask you wife or daughters, I bet they would be laughing to. Scissors and a bat are pretty mild considering how many of us feel. And I don't consider myself a victim just because I occasionally would like to kill my man or eat myself to death with a ton of chocolate. Heck, sometimes I want to kill him and it's not the "time of month".

Gomer,

Your point is well taken. And, you're right I'll never know firsthand what it's like to actually experience a period.....physically impossible....I get it.

My wife will be 61 soon, and my daughters are ages 41, 33, 32, and 21. (I have a son who's 38 also.) Over the years I've seen many a period come and go (at least from a man's perspective). Over the years, I've given countless backrubs, fetched the heating pad, and made midnight runs down to the grocery store to pick up tampons, whatever. I've seen my daughters do their Jeckyll and Hyde routine with great regularity. I've seen how miserable they felt and I always tried to be the sympathetic, caring, dad.

But an important point made in our family and reinforced by my wife is that no matter how crummy you feel, it doesn't give you the right to indulge that "crumminess" and take it out on someone else.

She stressed that if there's an issue on some other matter then address it in the context of that issue and not use the fact that you feel rotten as a pretext to work the other issue. She always tried to bring this menstrual cycle issue to a higher level and tried to major on what was really important. She lead by example and I've always admired and honored her for that.

You know, I think my wife was pretty wise. Maybe that's why I love her so much.

Again, your point is well taken, but I stand by my earlier conviction.

Walt

As a woman and the mother of three teenaged daughters, I agree with your wife, Walt. I recognise that my daughters and/or myself might be feeling like porcupines with our bristles up during PMS, but it's never an excuse for taking an attitude. Admittedly, it takes more self-control on the part of the one experiencing PMS, and more patience on those who are not. PMS is an experience which challenges both men and women to go beyond how they are feeling or how they are treated and just do the right thing.

I also was offended by the joke. If I actually saw a man, any man, with scissors through his temple, I'd be horrified, not amused.

I don't think it's just me, but I don't find your joke the least bit funny or amusing! And the rest you you that are yukking it up and agreeing with this are only adding to the problem.

The fact that a woman is having her period is not a reason, or even an excuse, for anybody to put scissors in anyone's temple or a bat up their asses, especially men. What part of that do you not understand?

Why continue to foster the "women are victims" philosophy by joking about cruelty to other people. Or, perhaps you've bought into the idea that men really do deserve such treatment simply because they are men? I realize, I think, that this is supposed to be a forum for humor, but this isn't funny.

As a man looking to go into nursing as a second career, I think I'll have enough challenges and have to watch my back as it is.

Flame away if it makes you feel better, but your period is not my problem. Don't get me wrong. I'm very sensitive and compassionate...............I'm married and I have four daughters, but "taking it out" on others is plain wrong, regardless of the cause. Period and paragraph.

Walt

Geez Walt.....lighten up!

I'm a guy. I don't necessarily like it when I get the cold shoulder or the "evil" treatment but I get over it... If you want to shove some scissors through my head and a bat up my ass you have to catch me first :-)~~~

I was raised by women so I guess I am able to see the humor in what you said... plus YOU DON'T SCARE ME LADY!!!

LOL

bye

I don''t think anyone is really going to put scissors or a bat come to that in the places mentioned really. "PMS is that time of the month when women behave the way menalways behave"!! I rest my case. KidluvMe you should be scared LoL

Let's try the same joke reversing gender:

A study in Wisconsin showed that the kind of female face a man finds attractive can differ depending on how a man's day is going at the time.

For instance, if he is happy with life in general, he is likely to be attracted to women who smile easily with beautiful eyes and has a shapely, feminine figure.

But if he is doing his taxes, he is likely to be impressed by a woman with scissors through her temple and a bat shoved up her ass.

Still funny? Makes you think, doesn't it.

Q. What is the difference between an armed terrorist and a woman with PMS?

A. You can reason with a terrorist!

Q. Why does it take 6 women with PMS to change a ligh bulb?

A. BECAUSE IT DOES THATS WHY!!!!!!

As I woman I found these two jokes funny and have told them to many many people. In around 99% of cases women have laughed and said "That is exactly how I feel"

This is what it is all about. Using humour to acknowledge that we do feel moody and touchy sometimes. Using humour to defuse an ages old division between male and female. Usign humour not to keep alive a myth but to keep a consciousness that there are special and different needs and attributes to womanhood that are goverened by the hormones within our bodies.

Sometimes humour is the only avenue for learning. What is to be learned from these jokes? Sometimes, through no fault of our own, our hormones make us feel like a stick of hot wet dynamite with a short fuse.

It is not the information that is at fault but what the recipients choose to do with it.

I'm not flaming anyone here, but this is the Nursing humor-share your funny jokes and stories page ...

I would panic if I saw a man or anyone lying on the street with scissors through any part of their head....

EE2NP & Ann42....Good Grief!! This is a joke, nothing more! It was posted in the nursing humor forum. If if offends you two, then simply depress the back button....no use losing sleep over it or getting your skivvies twisted out of shape. By the way one of my brothers emailed this joke to me.... he too REALIZED it was a JOKE, nothing more! Also, this joke is not promoting violence by any means. Sheeeeeeesh....it is a JOKE!

Chrisrob...thanks for the funny analogy...heehee! Gwenith, Kidsloveme, Gomer....too funny comments!

Also, EE2NP...I noticed that you posted a few jokes in the nursing forum as well....maybe myself or someone else could possibly be offended by those jokes you posted?!? Nah....because they are jokes...nothing more!
