I was wondering if anyone saw "Meet the Fockers". Apparently it's funny to belittle nurses, especially the males. Why do people still wonder why no one wants to go into this field?

I would change my last name though
your mother would me Mother Focker
your father would be Father Focker
all the kids would all those little Fockers
I would be that Nurse Focker
or that Focker Nurse
yes I would change my last name no matter how old a family tradition it was

I didn't see the movie, but I'm sure I'd like it. I'm a male and I graduate nursing school in May. What I would like to know is why people can't sit back and just laugh. I mean, is the movie holding you down and beating you up like a big brother? No. IT IS A MOVIE! People today really need learn to laugh at themselves.

I really enjoyed the first movie, and am looking forward to seeing this one. The previews look great.

I'm a male in nursing, and I think it's hysterical. And if you paid attention in the first movie as to Greg's (Gaylord's) opinion as to why he went into nursing instead of going to med school, it's great. He got in the high 90 something percentile on his MCATs and decided that being able to relate to his patients is more important than being called Dr.So lighten up, listen to the positive side of things, and have a Happy New Year!!Another Focker, RN

I saw the movie yesterday, thought it was hilarious, and actually discussed the way "nurse Focker" was portrayed in the movie with my grown daughter. We both agreed that the Ben Stiller character was a central positive figure, and therefore, nursing, by association, was portrayed in a positive light. The struggles he encountered (ridicule, put-downs, not being appreciated as a professional, misconceptions about being "gay," should have been a doctor, etc.) are everyday things (unfortunately) most nurses encounter all of the time.

I saw it couple of days ago. So funny -- one of the best comedies. Much better than the first one. Recommend to everyone to. I liked Fockers family - very natural, no pretense. It is not about male nurses at all.

Glad to hear that of those of you that already saw the movie that you liked it.
I am planning on seeing the movie with my boyfriend on Sunday. I don't see why this movie would be offensive to the nursing profession at all. If you think about it, all professions have some type of sterotype - like cops and donut shops for one, 7-11 owners, etc. It's a part of human nature to correlate something with the other for some. I can't wait to see the movie! We watched Meet The Parents today just to freshen our memories so we can be ready on Sunday. Can't wait to laugh!
Happy holidays everyone!

The portrayal of a nurse who happens to be male is not the reason I probably won't go see it. I just don't like, as I mentioned, all the juvenile high school type humor. I live with three boys . . I don't need anymore gas, masturbation, circumcision, humping dog, etc., jokes.

I don't know. It wouldn't be so funny to trash SAHM's, ethnic minorities, or teachers, but ha ha ha when it's nurses well that's a riot. I think Babs is a real bag of crappola and wouldn't really be so eager to see one her movies. So... I won't see it. But again, it is just a movie and may well be trash like much of the other stuff out there. In other words, not worth one's time or worry.
I haven't seen the film yet, but I am planning to see it. I do remember from "Meet the Parents" that Ben Stiller's character was very clear and confident about his decision to pursue nursing. As to the movie industry poking fun of other groups, minorities, etc..........that happens all of the time and I'm not saying that it is correct, but to imply that nurses are the only ones who get misrepresented in Hollywood is just inaccurate. In fact, in this very film, the Fockers are Jewish and portrayed in very comedical and stereotyped ways (at least what I've read in the reviews).

i usually like the 'toilet humor' to an extent. i found the original to be a little too ridiculous. i couldn't bear to see ben focker in such agony anymore. i know it's pretend, but how many things could possibly go wrong, and that your future in-laws would really hold you responsibe (the toilet, the ashes, and whatever else happened)?
i agree about his remark about nurses. good comebac. but i guess it sounded 'too caring' for a guy, at least for de niro

I don't care for toilet humor, so I don't watch movies like this to begin with. Sounds like I'm not missing much with this one. :uhoh21:
Anyway, I'm too busy enjoying the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Agree with you 100%, Tom. It was a movie and it was funny. I especially liked Hoffman in it.
