medicine or wives tale????

OK, i have contemplated with the likely hood that I really, really want a baby boy. I have heard some the strangest things about how to guarantee a boy. Some, I would not let my dog try!!:lol2: But, from a male nurse, one idea did strike my curiousity. I have several friends who had trouble getting pregnant and did not need fertility drugs, just the right time per se. I remember them running through a list their husbands should not do while, during, or whatever in their process of trying to become with child. One of which, was along the lines of men being in hot tubs or soaking in really hot bath water. Don't remember too much about the female and along them lines until after their were pregnant. So, anyways............the male nurse friend of mine said due to the X sperm being slower and the Y being faster and somewhat stronger, I too remember this in OB, the hot bath or hot tub "soak" for 10 minutes lessens the likely hood of a X chromosome making it to the egg and thus fertilizing it and having a female. Now, I have girls and 1 boy. So, it is not life altering to not have another child at all..............BUT I just have it in my heart that I want another boy. I thought these "feelings" would pass, but the more I have become fixated on the idea. Has any one else heard of this? Am I just reading WWWWWAAYYYYY too much into it because I want a baby boy and see some hope??? Can any one of you OB nurses shed some light on it?????

The only sure way to have a boy is to selectively fertilize eggs with only "male" sperm. All the rest is unproven and speculative, to say the best.

Or you can adopt.

I have three boys. The last boy was conceived while following the rules about having a girl. I agree with deb, the only real way to do it is to have artificial manipulation of the sperm. I called my OB and he basically talked me down. His comment was, "Do you want a third child?". I did. Ten years later, I am not disappointed by not having a girl. Especially since my oldest is a teen and my friends with teen girls are having a much harder time! I am hoping for a granddaughter, though!!

Well, shoot!! I should have known if its sounds too good.....................it usually is. Like, I saidthere were some things I had remembered, maybe not all accurate, from OB. Oh, well! I really don't NEED another child, I just really wanted another little boy. Thanks guys!

Rofl, I hope whatever happens, if you do have another baby, I sincerely do hope he( or she ) is healthy. That is the best any of us can hope for, and more than some of us get....

Best wishes to you. Sorry we could not help!

LOL--If you want a boy, you need to join my DH's family!! My DH has all brothers...the brothers have all boys...we have two boys and I am PG with my third (another boy!)...

What's the big deal about having boys? Will you love a girl less? I struggle with the idea of gender selection. It makes me think females would be selected out of existence and that makes me feel pretty sad. It makes me sad to realize that girls aren't as important as boys.

I have teenage girls and they are a delight; they aren't at all snarly and mean as some I've seen. Not all teenagers act up. Mine are pretty mellow.

I have 5 boys, the most recent born on 12/31 (yeah, tax deduction!) and there's pretty much nothing you can do to influence the process. Everyone gave me hints on how to make sure I gave my wife the girl chromosome, but alas, the Almighty has a sense of humor....

If you Google "gender determination" you'll find a bunch on this. About the

4th link down is a message board all about it!

I just have to respond because I fell the same way!! I have 2 girls and 1 boy and now I really want another boy! After I had my first (a girl ) I really wanted another girl so my daughter could have a sister, now I want another sweet boy. Look at the chinese gender calender predictor somewhere on the net. It is amusing and it was right for all 3 of mine :)

LOL.. my sister is PG with her 2nd baby. When she went in for the ultrasound the Dr. told her husband he was sexist for wanting a boy..lol.. After he told her it was indeed a girl (what she was hoping for) the doctor said he likes girls better because they are better for business..lol :lol2:

The "Shettles Method" is what you are talking about.

My DD was a surprise - I was using NFP and contraceptive foam and was lactating, we wanted another baby, but were planning on waiting 6 months because of the risk of a preterm baby and we wanted the baby to be born after RSV season ;)

I know when I conceived because although I didn't have any fertility signs prior to sex, I did a few days later and the foam usually is a little irritating and wasn't that time, so maybe I didn't use enough or whatever. Anyway, when I saw the signs, I said that if I did get pg and the shettles method was right, it would have to be a girl. And it was ;)

So, there's my testimony.

I do think that it's fine to have dreams about the sex of the next child, but it's not a good idea to have your heart set on one or the other. If you are going to have a baby, you need to want the baby, not just a boy or a girl.
